Briar is the pocket field guide that says "wait, check this first" before you put anything in the basket. Most plant apps hand you a name and stop. Briar hands you the doubt: every one of the 25 entries carries a dedicated LOOK-ALIKE WARNING block, a Safety-first sort floats the dangerous ones to the top, and a season filter shows only what is actually ripe this month. It is a reference written for the trail, not a photo quiz. WHAT YOU GET • Walk out knowing which of the 25 plants are worth picking this month — the In Season tab re-sorts itself by the calendar • Spot the poisonous twin before you taste it — wild garlic vs lily of the valley, chickweed vs scarlet pimpernel, elder vs dwarf elder • Find any plant in seconds by name, Latin name or habitat, and star the ones you keep coming back to • Remember exactly where your best patch was — log species, spot, date and notes for every find, then edit or delete later • Read it in bright sunlight — flat high-contrast paper-and-ink layout, no glare, no clutter • Keep working with no signal — the whole guide lives on the phone, nothing is fetched PERFECT FOR • Beginners who want the safety notes before they want the recipes • Hedgerow, woodland and coastal walkers building a year-round calendar • Experienced pickers who need a fast second opinion on a doubtful find • Anyone who would rather keep a private map of patches than post them online WHY NOT JUST USE A PHOTO IDENTIFIER? Camera ID apps are great at naming garden plants and quietly terrible at the one thing that matters here: telling you what a plant is NOT. Briar puts the confusion species, the tell-tale differences and a plain "when in doubt, do not eat" on every single entry — and pairs it with a foraging log a photo app does not have. PRIVATE BY DEFAULT No account, no sign-in, no analytics, no ads. Your saved plants and every logged find are stored only on this device and never leave it. FULL ACCESS Briar is a paid app. A subscription unlocks the complete 25-plant guide, the look-alike warnings, the seasonal calendar and unlimited find logging. Choose a weekly or a yearly plan. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period; manage or cancel any time in your App Store account settings. Open the In Season tab now, see what is ripe this month, and log your first find on the next walk. Briar is a reference guide only. Never eat any plant unless you are absolutely certain of its identification. When in doubt, do not eat.
