If I could give this company 0 stars I would. I recently had a mortgage transferred to Freedom. When our first monthly payment was due, it was $1000 more than our monthly payment with our previous loan company. My wife called to find out why and was told that it was due to an escrow shortage of around $7000, but that we could pay that shortage in a lump sum in order to keep our payments around the amount we paid before. The $7000 figure seemed high to me, so I called back and after some digging the person I spoke to told me that the figure was based on calculations done by our previous company that didn't include a partial homestead tax exemption that would bring our tax estimate down by about $2500. They said that I could submit documentation through their online messaging portal showing the tax exemption, which I did for 2023 and 2024, and that they would then recalculate the escrow shortage so that we could pay it off. That seemed reasonable and it looked like we were moving in the right direction. When I received a response through the portal, they said that we had overpaid our taxes and should have received a check (which was true), but they ignored my questions regarding the escrow shortage amount. I then called back so I could speak to someone in person, and after speaking to 1 rep in their tax dept. and two in their escrow dept., I was told that we didn't have an "escrow shortage" but we had a "negative escrow balance".Now, to me, those two things sound very similar, but in fact they are apparently very different. I asked if I could still make a lump sum payment to cover the negative balance in order to bring my monthly payments down, but was told I couldn't do that. Even if I made an extra deposit into escrow on my own they told me they would not recalculate the monthly payment. I then asked whether I could pull my tax and homeowners insurance payments from Freedom in order to pay them on my own in order to reduce my monthly payment (my homeowners insurance had just been paid and all my taxes were up to date). I was told I could do that, but only after I paid the negative escrow balance. So, I'm able (and required) to pay the escrow balance to change the account to remove the tax and insurance, but I'm not able to do that to recalculate the monthly payment. This just doesn't make sense to me. In either case I'm changing the account which is going to require a little work on their end, but it doesn't seem they are willing (or able) to make some cal

FM seems to be doing a pretty good job!!

I’ve been with Freedom Mortgage for over a year and so far I’ve had no problems. I’m very pleased with the service and it’s easy to check up on my accounts on the Internet. The people I’ve encountered have always been very friendly, respectful, and helpful. ;)
