Been using the app for nearly 8 years now. Sure, the layout wasn’t perfect and the map downloads took forever, but once the maps were on your phone it was reliable. These new app improvements have completely ruined the app. Every time I try to use the app it wants a login which is not possible when you don’t have service (hence downloaded offline maps). I try to download new maps and not only is it still slow but it fails every time. I’ve tried logging out and logging back in, deleted the app entirely and downloaded a fresh copy, everything but it’s still broken. I’m on an iPhone 15 Pro connected to 1GB download speed wifi and nothing downloads, map thumbnails are blank, premium map layers don’t work. Stop focusing on integrating social media features and fix the core functionality for your loyal paying customers.
Gaia is OK but quite expensive and could us some improvements. For example, it really needs 3D maps. It also could benefit from a really easy way to draw a quick route and get an estimate for the distance, like the Canada Topo app has. Downloading maps for offline use is incredibly slow.
Go to Gaia when you have somewhere to go to, it is the go-to when you go to your go to……
My iPhone reported this app was tracking my detailed location even when I was not recording a track and had manually “closed” the app. Very uncool. Not sure if it was a bug or not, but it clearly didn’t match the app’s published policy.
Requires account… no reason you should need an account
I’ve used Gaia for the past year without hitch until a few months ago when it no longer allows me to get past my correct credentials. I’ve tried contacting both the Gaia and outside customer support but have received zero response. Very disappointed. Uninstalled both useless apps!
It’s good, but I wish the subscription was available as monthly instead of just yearly, it’s hard to pay so much at once…
You’re done. Whatever other shyster software you peddle good luck. You’ve just lost a customer who has, and would continue to pay $$$ premiums for a reliable backcountry mapping app. The Product / Powers That Be staff at “Outside” actually need to get TF outside and do a reality check. RIP Gaia. It was a good run, but whoever is in charge now has totally train wrecked it.
The app updated recently and I can’t find the map anymore! Just a useless feed of posts about outdoors and backpacking… Where is the map?
