Battery drain problem
The app is fine at its core function. Problem is it will on some days completely drain the phone’s battery even if it’s not being used. I deleted it because of this.
Offline Maps
The storage limit for offline maps is far to low to be able to plan and use on extended travel - 160 000 tiles. This may sound like a lot, but does not even equate to 5Gigs which covers about one tenth of the Western Cape in South Africa. Why have 100’s og gigs of device storage and then this low limit?
Lost
Can’t even find the capital cities of countries outside of the US. Seems pretty useless for overland travel.
Exceptional!!!!
I have hiked the PCT and many other hikes in South Africa and this is the most up to date and comprehensive navigational app out there its just incredible, it has spots and tracks that are so hidden and so great, just simply the best. Thank you To the team at Gaia 👍🏼
The best GPS app for hiking and camping
This is without a doubt the best gps app to help you navigate while you are hiking or mountaineering. It is also very used to track your 4x4 or overlanding trips. Another great use for it is to mark important POI or way points that would like to record to revisit whenever you decide to hike back to the same area. I would recommend this app over all the others.
A great app
This app is great for hiking. It shows all the relevant tracks and is useful especially if one is off course and wants to get back to main tracks in the vicinity. 5 stars
Best software
Brilliant topological gps software. I use this in my off-road vehicle and ADV, work brilliant.
Developers getting greedy?
I started using the original free version of Gaia app and shortly thereafter paid for the new app. It was the single most expensive app I have ever bought but I did not mind too much. Now I discover that was not a once-off-for-life purchase (which I was led to believe at the time of the purchase), but now I have to pay a ridiculously high amount every year? Sorry, no can do. I would normally rate this app Five stars (or Seven if that were possible) but due to their greedy pricing structure changes, sorry, you get only Two stars now. Sad to lose this app, now the hunt starts for a replacement app.
Great app but very expensive
Great app works very well but it is very expensive for the premium version which you need to have to have if you need offline maps which is a pity
