Plan
Garmin Pilot’s powerful capabilities start with pre-flight planning, providing pilots with the most comprehensive aviation weather information to make better-informed flight decisions. Pilots can check NEXRAD radar, visible and infrared cloud imagery, METARs, TAFs, AIRMETs, SIGMETs, PIREPs, NOTAMs, winds and temperature aloft, TFRs and lightning data. With Garmin Pilot, data can be displayed over Garmin’s interactive maps that support track-up navigation, VFR sectional or an IFR low or high en-route chart to visualize the weather for your route. Add text-based weather widgets and use the exclusive NavTrack feature to view weather along the planned route.

With Garmin Pilot, users can easily enter a flight plan and interactively edit it on the map. Pre-loaded forms make it quick to save and reuse data for frequently flown routes. And when the flight plan is ready, Garmin Pilot makes it simple to file, amend or close the flight plan via Leidos Flight Service or DUATS.
Fly
Garmin Pilot provides full en-route navigation capability on its moving map. Pilots can also navigate with Garmin’s patented panel, a GPS-driven instrument pack with a graphical HSI directional display and indicators for groundspeed, altitude and vertical speed. After takeoff, pilots can continue to view real-time weather in the U.S. and traffic information by wirelessly connecting to Garmin’s GDL 39 3D portable ADS-B Receiver (sold separately).
Log
Garmin Pilot includes a comprehensive electronic logbook that syncs with flyGarmin. The logbook automatically generates entries based upon GPS data collected during the flight, tracks currency, supports manual entries, endorsements and creates reports.

SafeTaxi incomplete
SafeTaxi is not available for a lot of smaller airports (at least in Germany). This is data SkyDemon and ForeFlight have. So you either have to pay for DFS charts (again in Germany), or source information about the layout of those airports from somewhere else. This point alone renders the app unusable for me unfortunately (bummer that I had to pay for the Premium subscription to find out). Besides that, I wish the layout of a lot of screens and some interactions would follow Apple’s human design guidelines more closely. There is definitely potential here, and I wish it would be already in a state where I could rely solely on it for VFR in Germany …
Performance

when autorouter.aero is still finding acceptable routings in europe, Garmin pilot shows none.
Sync of flightplans between ipad/ipad/iphone still not properly working: active flightplan with email confirmation is synced as „validated“, with next sync back to first ipad „filed“ disappears and shows „validated“.
Getting the briefing of a flight with 700NM takes 20min.
Last flight I got a navlog indicating wrong mileage by 300NM!
Getting more and more difficult to operate with.
Umstieg - Behinderung
Nach sehr langer Nutzung dieser App war ich mit der stockenden Weiterentwicklung nicht mehr zufrieden.
Deshalb habe ich zu ForeFlight gewechselt.
Aber:
Nachdem das Pilot Abo ausgelaufen war hatte ich auch keinen Zugriff mehr zu meinen Logbuchdaten. Das ist mehr als frech und bestätigt meine Entscheidung zum Wechsel.
Funktioniert leider nicht wie erwartet
Es werden inaktive Lufträume angezeigt, LANTA ist tagsüber inaktiv genauso am Wochenende. Die Basemap ist unglaublich schlecht. Kaum Informationen die hilfreich sind. Die Erstellung von GPX Exports funktioniert nicht. Leider kein brauchbares Produkt für VFR…
Kein Weiterleiten mehr möglich
Visual Operation Charts vor einiger Zeit gekauft, damit ich sie auf dem IPad habe und sie auch ausdrucken kann. Jetzt nach dem Update kann ich sie weder abspeichern, noch ausdrucken. Der Button hierfür wurde einfach entfernt. 😡
Pilot funktioniert nicht mehr
Stehe heute in Zadar Kroatien und nichts geht mehr im garmin pilot. Hatte den Flugplan bereits in Tivat gefilled und stand dann da wie ein Idiot.
Garmin support meinte dann ich müsste mein ipad und die app aktualisieren. Bravo jetzt geht noch weniger.
Einfach unglaublich, für so etwas zahlt man viel Geld
Perfekt für IFR Piloten mit Garmin Ausrüstung
Wer z.B. ohnehin mit G1000 oder GTN750 unterwegs ist, fühlt sich hier intuitiv zu Hause. Im Gegensatz zum Konkurrenzprodukt ist hier alles klar und sauber. Es wird auf einfache Bedienung geachtet. Weiter so!

Flight Planning including mass & balance, performance, weather, autorouter, briefing pack. Very accurate and intuitive. Feels like GTN750. Perfect integration with Garmin avionics.
Fast perfekt
Still missing: takeoff cdistance calculation, graphical notam-depictioneinzige iOS Planungssoftware, mit der man VFR UND IFR planen/fliegen kann.
Verbesserungsfähig wären:
- Darstellung von Lufträumen
- Graphische Darstellung von Enroute-Notams
- Wetterkarten für Europa unter FL100.
- Kompatibilität mit externen Nicht-Garmingerätwn, zB AVIDYNE 440 oder ext. AHRS-Geräten

Every update new bugs
Not reliable, more bugs per update than fixes. Not even documentation what they changed in an „update“, just „fixes“, wow. Garmin, be Professional! Domproper documentation what has been touched in a version. Finally, install a QA department, rather than using us as your testlab. You play with live‘s!
