## Garmin Smartphone Link Description
Smartphone Link works with select Bluetooth® enabled Garmin navigation devices, including most products from the following product categories:

• Garmin Drive™, Garmin DriveSmart™, Garmin DriveAssist™, Garmin DriveLuxe™ automotive navigators
• Garmin RV and Camper navigators
• zūmo motorcycle navigators
• dēzl lorry navigators
• some nüvi automotive navigators (3597/3598/2x17/2x18/2x97/2x98/2x67/2x68/2577)

Smartphone Link allows you to connect a compatible Garmin navigator and your iPhone®. Once linked, the compatible Garmin navigator uses your existing mobile data plan[1] to share information with your iPhone, including contacts, search results, favourite locations, your driving destination and even your parking spot. With Smartphone Link, your compatible Garmin navigator can also access Garmin Live Services[2] for useful, real-time driving information. 

What Are Garmin Live Services?
 
Garmin Live Services provide the most up-to-date "live" information to your Garmin navigator using your existing mobile data plan. There's no need for an additional data connection. Some services are included when you connect to Smartphone Link. Other services within the app are available through optional paid subscriptions offering premium content and enhanced features. To receive data relevant to your location, Garmin Live Services require that your current GPS location be shared with Garmin and Garmin partners.

Included Live Services: 

• Address sharing - Send locations and online search results from your phone to your compatible Garmin navigator and navigate there

• Garmin Live Traffic 
Avoid delays and find detours with the best-in-class real-time information. Garmin Live Traffic is updated every minute and receives more than 1000 messages every update cycle

•	Live Parking[3]
Save time and take the stress out of parking. View helpful parking information, including pricing and availability trends for on-street public parking, as you approach your destination.

• Weather - View forecasts and current conditions

• Last Mile - Remembers your parking spot and shows your destination, so you can find your way on foot and back again

Premium Live Services, available for a one-time[4] purchase within the app, include:

• photoLive traffic cameras[2]
Look up live photos from over 10,000 traffic cameras to see traffic and weather conditions

• Advanced Weather[2] 
View detailed forecasts, current conditions and animated radar images, plus receive severe weather alerts

• Dynamic Off-Street Parking[2]
 Find parking close to your destination, including the number of spots available and current cost

Setting up the connection is a bit of a hassle and most likely the reason why people fail to get it working, resulting in bad reviews and a low score. Make sure to pair the device via Bluetooth, make sure that the Bluetooth connection is active and then press the antenna button in the left top corner of the app.

I bought the Garmin 396 for use with the smartlink app. However since may 2019 the app makes no connection. Even the garmin support does not know what to do. They suggest i should try another smartphone (which btw als does not work/connects).
The lack of connection makes mine freshly bought cyclops camera subcription also not work. There is no way to make connection through the traffic button on the garmin itsself: so also no real life traffic feed.

Niet goed in vergelijking met de prijs van mijn toestel. Heb een dezelcam voor in mijn vrachtwagen maar gebruik er de app zelde of nooit mee. Slechte bluetooth koppeling, onoverzichtelijke lay-out, trage verbinding...enz
Idd verspil er je tijd niet aan.

I have a BMW Navigator V and everything seemed to work fine with the Smartphone Link, however, I purschased the in-app live traffic and live speedcam functions, which are NOT working. No alert is being pushed to the device (the extended weather service works fine though).
Since it's an in-app purchase, I don't know how to ask for a refund for both services (40€ in total!)
Please fix this Garmin!

First of all: I cannot believe there are no review of this app. I wonder how a global company as Garmin don’t get any review…
I bought a Garmin 590 (actual the BMW version of it Mototrrazd V): great device and wel integrated with the bike.
I installed Garmin Smart Link to be able to get traffic info to the GPS: I paid the in-app option for 3D traffic in Europe. It kinda worked. Except for the bluetooth  connection problems: the app would not connect automatically to the GPS, so you manually have to connect it.
After some time, I got a new (great) iPhone 6S. I reinstalled Garmin Smart Link: it seemed to connect (as badly) as my previous phone. BUT, my 'one time' fee on 3D traffic disappeared and the GPS was telling me I did not have a subscription. I emailed Garmin support and I’m waiting for an answer. In any case my long history with very bad Garmin software : all kind of firmware glitches, Basecamp crashing every day, … Now this. 
The problem is : you cannot test this before paying for the in-app option, because, you don’t have the in-app option. 
I guess I’ll live without it, because I will not pay another ‘one time fee’ for 3D traffic. Instead, I will start a crusade to inform and warn consumers on Garmin software.
