Popular Reasons to Raise Money Online:
Medical: From ER visits to long-term care, medical expenses can wipe out savings accounts and leave behind debt that lasts for years. Online fundraising for medical expenses is a powerful tool that can help people conquer medical bankruptcy and focus on getting better. Countless people have found that using GoFundMe for medical expenses can help pay for prescriptions and doctors' appointments – as well as procedures not typically covered by insurance.
Animals: Your pet’s presence is woven into the fabric of your everyday life. That’s why when your pet goes missing, falls ill or needs an emergency operation, it can shake you up and leave you feeling anxious about the future.
Funerals/Memorials: When you’re grieving the loss of a loved one, you shouldn’t have to worry about how you’ll pay for a funeral. Fundraising for funeral expenses helps ease financial stress during this difficult time and allows you to focus on saying goodbye and honoring your loved one’s memory.

Charity: Creating a fundraiser through GoFundMe is the best way to raise money for a charity you’re passionate about. Thousands of people are raising funds for a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and you can support their mission to make a difference.
Emergency: When disaster or tragedy strikes, people turn their compassion into action by starting fundraisers to help the victims and their families. You can donate to an individual fundraiser during these times of emergency to make a direct and immediate impact.

GoFundMe FAQ
Is GoFundMe free?
Yes, GoFundMe is completely free and it doesn't have any in-app purchases or subscriptions.
Is GoFundMe legit?
⚠️ The GoFundMe app has poor ratings and negative feedback. Users seem unsatisfied with its performance or features.
We have been waiting for a month for gofundme to release the funds, as the kids in our intended recipient’s family are being intentionally starved to death. It takes gofundme several days to respond once, and then you have to wait for another few days.
Don’t use this fundraiser, they don’t care about the urgency of their customers and after waiting unnecessarily long while the kids are starving they will still have no qualms about taking a big chunk of your funds.
Can be better
Not easy to use, difficult to edit, to much information they ask, get hanged a lot, got stuck with verification my bank account and was the GoFundMe problems.

I know it is a non-profit and all. But an ounce of upgrade to the customer service bit wouldn’t hurt.

horrible and greedy!
GoFundMe is a useful platform for raising money, and there’s no denying that it's helped a lot of people. But let’s talk about the elephant in the room: their blatantly greedy tip system. The way they handle this is outright exploitative, preying on the good intentions of donors who just want to help someone in need.
When you donate, GoFundMe shamelessly prompts you to leave a “tip” for them, with preset percentages like 10%, 15%, or even 20%! This isn't a tip for the fundraiser you’re donating to—it’s for GoFundMe themselves. The worst part? They make it seem like you have no choice but to pay it. Sure, you can adjust it to zero, but it’s designed to confuse and guilt you into leaving a bigger tip than you’d normally want to. It’s manipulative and deceptive, especially when people are trying to support causes in desperate need.
Let’s not forget: GoFundMe is a multi-million dollar company. Yet, instead of transparently charging a small platform fee, they squeeze even more out of donors who are already being generous with their money. It’s disgusting that they put the responsibility of covering their costs on the backs of people who are trying to do good in the world.
This platform feels like it’s taking advantage of the very people who make it successful. Their greed leaves a bad taste in your mouth, and they seriously need to rethink how they handle this so-called “tip” system.
