We put everything we could into making the best digital Sudoku game ever released:

- We wrote a puzzle generator from scratch to create over 70,000 of the highest quality puzzles you’ll see anywhere. We spent weeks figuring out how to generate intricate and complex puzzles you won’t find in other Sudoku apps. Our hardest puzzles require wild techniques like “XYZ Wings”, “Hidden Quadrouples”, “Jellyfish”, and “Swordfish”.

- Most people don’t know this but Sudoku puzzles are actually generated by programatic Sudoku solvers. The fastest way to know how hard your puzzle is, or if it’s valid, is to write a solver that knows all the strategies that can try it. With Good Sudoku, we run our solver as you are playing, so if you get stuck, it can detect what you know by looking at your answers and your notes, and then help you find the next technique you need to solve the puzzle.

- Most Sudoku games classify difficulty into vague Easy, Medium, and Hard difficulties — But what do these difficulties mean? Typically they refer to the kinds of solving techniques that are required to solve a given puzzle without resorting to guess-and-check. In Good Sudoku we aren’t vague about it at all. We lay out exactly which techniques are required for each difficulty level. Good Sudoku allows you to practice them individually outside of puzzles, and keeps track of which ones you’ve learned!

- When we first got interested in Sudoku we noticed that a lot of players spend most of their time looking at the board and counting. On easy puzzles, this counting serves as a way to increase the difficulty by making the puzzle take longer. We know some sudoku players love the counting but we found it a bit tedious and designed some tools to alleviate the busywork. At first these tools might feel a bit like cheating, but once your mind is freed up from counting you’ll have space to see the much deeper more fascinating side of Sudoku: all of the beautiful technique structures. Freed from the burden of busywork Sudoku becomes one of the best search-style games we’ve ever played. More fun than word-searches and solitaire, high-level Sudoku is a real treat — and with Good Sudoku and a little practice, anyone can learn it!

- We noticed when looking at other Sudoku apps although there are often daily puzzle modes, those modes never include global leaderboards. Weird! Good Sudoku remedies this problem!

- We wanted to make the best Sudoku out there, and while we’re proud of our puzzles, we recognize that puzzles come from all places. That’s why we built a quick and easy custom puzzle mode into Good Sudoku, so if you have a paper puzzle that you’re stuck on, or you’re trying some wild variant (Like the Miracle Sudoku!) it’s easy to put it into the game, play it, and share it with your friends. If the puzzle follows standard Sudoku rules, our hint system will even help you get unstuck!

As far as I can tell, the App “sees” some avoidable rectangles but not others.  I’d like to ask Zach about it but there’s no way to do so thru the App so I’m forced to write a review here.  Also, some techniques rarely if ever are used.  Chains and swordfish for example.  I play the impossible extended level.

Developers definitely put lots of effort into it, but it needs some improvement, such as changing the color of given numbers and values. It’s so important to find avoidable rectangles.

When working through the Improve section, I will commonly find several possibilities to fulfill a certain task. An Avoidable Rectangle, for example, had 4 extraneous ways of demonstrating the knowledge, but the tutorials seem to only want one very specific action taken. If you fill in a blank or cross out a note that would follow the format in a different cell, there is a good chance it will not count. This makes learning frustrating.

It’s the best sudoku app I’ve ever played, and I’ve played a lot of them! Its ability to teach is unmatched in any other app I’ve ever seen. 
The only reason it’s not a 5 star review is because it doesn’t have a simple setting to add a daily reminder if you haven’t played your daily puzzles to keep your streak going. I can’t believe I’m requesting an app to send me a notification, but I hate missing a day because I get busy and forget to check in later in the day. It’s very frustrating to lose my streak. 
Looks like they haven’t updated the app in three years, so I doubt they’ll see this or do anything about it, but it would earn 6 stars if I could. I play it every morning and it has taught be to be a better solver!

By far the best Sudoku apps I’ve found yet: the entry and note taking mechanisms are intuitive, and it comes with lots of levels, gameplay modes, and a slew of convenient settings and themes, as well as a very good hints feature that’s useful if you’re looking to level up your sudoku skillz!

My only complaint is that the app occasionally freezes on first open. (Oh, and I’d also love a dark mode icon, since the app is looking a little out of place on my new iOS 18 Home Screen!)

This is the best sudoku client out there.  Most entertaining and nicest interface. Some crash bugs are frustrating and ui weirdness but not deal killers.

I would like to revisit this review. This game saved my life. I had a brain injury and Instead of watching junk tv I speed ran this game on hard for months while my brain was recovering. The hope was that my brain when it was finally healed it would be healed in an IQ 1000 instead of being a smooth brained vegetable because it was the hardest thing i could do without getting a headache.

Well my mind seems to have healed very well and I’m able to work again at very high levels of productivity and difficulty.  It’s impossible to say if this was the magic secret to recovery but at least in my experience it felt like a challenging brain workout that scaled with difficulty as I got better and my brain healed.
