Halfway Concept

Unbelievable that you can't change the size of the user interface type elements, as you can those of the actual web pages. But more subtly, the app somehow gives promise, yet once in your hands, with all the 'premium features', it reveals itself as neither one thing nor the other. There's the linked page in front of you, yes, but, you think - what if it disappeared online? Well, you can export it to PDF. But you have to remember to do that deliberately - it's not part of the idea. Which app would host the PDF? Why should I have to remember to export it? So is the app just a slick a collection of bookmarks? Or ... what the heck is it? And then it hits you: the app you really want is one that retrieves the web page AND produces the very best PDF version, in case the page disappears, and this isn't that app. So then you're back with the god-awful interface of DEVONthink, or better, Keep It, but still wishing that those two could be fused into one. And so it goes on.

Almost replaces 2 categories at once

Beautifully designed, simple and fast. It parses articles and any text immaculately. You could use it as a Pocket/instapaper (read later) replacement, or as a Raindrop/Pinboard (bookmarking) replacement. Unfortunately you can’t really do both at the moment because there is no folder system to separate the functions - please add them developer :) Also missing is the ability to save images or PDFs to it in addition to articles. But overall, it’s so nice to be able to perform these functions via iCloud and not someone else’s servers. I hope it keeps improving. And thank you for the very fair and reasonable pricing system

Does what it says on the tin, and does it well

9/10 - It can download, tag and highlight the links. - It syncs through your iCloud so you don’t need to create yet another account. - No tracking at all. - Can import from multiple other apps Things that would make it a 10/10 for me: - Being able to sync through a 3rd party like Proton Drive or a self hosted service - Some form of text to speech

Best read-it-later app out there

Marley_jf on

United Kingdom

I’ve tried a lot of read-it-later apps and none of them come close to GoodLinks. It’s fun to use, private by design, and full of options to customise it to your liking. The share sheet is great and allows you to choose between quick save (I.e., no options presented) or save (and preset you with a screen to edit the item before saving. This app would be a five star for me if you could change the behaviour of quick save to just save an article and do nothing else (but disappear). Sometimes the saved confirmation window lingers a little too long for my liking. Additionally, I’d love it if you could choose the app icon independently of the accent colour.

Very good

Doesn't download pages

John T. Stone on

United Kingdom

The app is totally unreliable in terms of downloading pages. Ninety percent of the time, the app gets stuck at 0/number of remaining bookmarks and doesn’t download anything, even after hours of running. Restarting, reinstalling the app, and reinstalling the Mac had no effect. I submitted a support request via email a week ago but haven’t received any response yet. The next version needs better log files that are actually readable and useful. Also, why do I have to share a log file and send it to “Notes” just so I can view it? Why is there no “Save As” button? I had very high hopes for this app, but the lack of functionality and the lack of response from the developer have made me reevaluate my expectations.

So simple & So useful

It does all I need for cross device Read-It-Later and bookmarking. Update: I just discovered the Random link shortcut & assigned it to the iPhone 15 Action button - suddenly this app is used in a whole new way. Amazing.

Excellent app to bookmark the links independent of the browser.

A Mac Essential

kopiert on

United Kingdom

I iuse this partly as a bookmark keeper and partly as a read it later app. Good implementation of tags and site descriptions makes it an incredibly useful tool. The export alongside the new highlighting feature means I can get stuff into other apps easily. I am glad the developer has decided to improve their revenue model - too many apps go under for lack of cashflow. It is the "fair subscription ". where you get to keep what you buy, as opposed to lose everthing when you stop subscribing.
