Harvard Business Review Reviews

No PDF reader in new app

JSrinivasan on

India

The previous HBR App had a magazine feel of reading with PDF , which is missing in the new app ..

App is good, but needs a lot of improvement

sanjayshah912 on

India

1) I use the iPad and iPhone versions of the app. The iPad version is highly unreliable. It suddenly decides to not load the content and gives error message. It seems app stability and performance is not tested properly. 2) Older app had past issues of last few years available. That is not available in the new app. Too disappointing. It must show all the archive issues. 3) The app must have all the content which is available on hbr.org website. It must also inherit the library saved on the website. How inefficient it is to have two libraries for the same HBR on two different platforms…!!! I wish you look into this and improve. Thanks. -Sanjay Shah

Mediocre experience with the app

K Suyal on

India

Although this app is much better than the previous one, I have a few observations/suggestions: 1. A progress bar on top of the articles to indicate how much of the article is left is much needed 2. Easy functionality to adjust font size will be a good addition 3. You can increase stickiness by introducing word meaning lookup and storing searches in history for the reader to revisit (like kindle) 4. Load time still seems to be on the higher side

Issue of past issues

There is no way in the new app to see the past issues. At best we can search on some, hint on an article. Needs improvement.

Not useful

ds3145 on

For my use this app is inferior to web or printed edition. It does not allow picking a specific magazine issue and browsing through it, resuming an article (you can flag it but that is not the same as a bookmark). Also, it cannot display articles as printed (e.g. in PDF) that I particularly like about the magazine.

Quality Content, Poor App

seanismac on

United States

How are we at the end of 2024, and there is still not a way to consume the content through the app in magazine form? The published version found in bookstores is the superior way to read HBR. The developer has stated for years that this feature is in beta, and that it should be rolled out soon. As if they were developing software for NASA. Please implement this basic feature for paying customers.

Hugely improved!

The new HBR app is a breath of fresh air compared to the old experience.

Notes

Gowere on

I find the app a bit clunky, which makes me hesitant to use it more often. Additionally, the account settings menu could use improvement. That said, the articles are generally excellent. I could appreciate a broader range of opinions, but the depth of subject is sufficient for me.

iPad experience feels like its designed for iPhone

kgup on

United States

Sadly, the iPad app is missing the opportunity to take advantage of the form factor and deliver an exceptional experience. The layout of articles on the iPad feels completely off - as if it was designed for an iPhone. It’s unfortunate that while the content is top notch, the experience is lacking. A basic feature that used to exist but is missing now (or really well hidden!) is to read a particular issue (current or a recent one) as a collection of articles, instead they are lost and jumbled in a sea of content; also missing is the ability for offline storage and reading of a particular issue, which was really useful as a way to catch up on articles while traveling without wifi access. These used to exist, so I am at a loss as to why they were removed - the annual subscription is certainly not cheap, so the iPad app is disappointing. I hope someone from the HBR product team is monitoring comments. (Disclaimer: I don’t do a lot of app reviews… but I like the magazine so much, and the iPad app is so atrocious … that I feel compelled to leave a detailed review!)

Aging in reverse

Tetraowl on

United States

App is aging in reverse. Used to have the ability to download and read the magazine, but that was years ago. Now it's nearing the stage of being a beta app with little to no functionality.
