Head Tracker Reviews

Excellent tracking software

I’ve used facetracking as well as home-made IR solutions for head tracking, but this works very well using the iPhone’s excellent camera. Very smooth (providing your OpenTrack setup is set right). Also make sure iPhone camera is set to shoot 60fps video for best performance. I would only suggest adding an option to turn the screen off when tracking is on and just show the tracking axis. It’s handy to see yourself when initially testing the app, but after a while it’s just distracting to have your face looking out at you while you game.

When using the software headtracker, my device is usually in landscape, but no matter if I turn off or turn on the rotation lock on my ipad, the camera always shoots in portrait in the software, which results in a very small field of view that the software gets, and most of the time I can't adjust the camera to shoot in portrait (the software's own rotate button doesn't show up), so please add add a button to the software that is always displayed to allow me to adjust the camera to landscape orientation.

I have a Problem

When I start the app and open track it does not read my video on my phone and it says “no video” on my pc. I don’t know if I need to do something else to fix it.

It works.

Fairly easy to set up and connect to OpenTrack. Works well for DCS and IL-2 from my experience. Only has issues if there isn’t enough light to for it see all of your face. But this is probably more due to the phone camera needing to be able to see enough track points than the app itself. Get a cheap phone mount to go on top your monitor and this app and you’re all set to fly.

Works amazingly

Was not expecting such a good head tracker. Looked too good to be true. Works just as well as any other tracker would, great alternative to trackir. The only downside is that the trial only lasts 10 minutes, but can the $2 full version being as cheap as it is compensates for it heavily. You can also restart the tracker when it runs out to use it virtually forever, but I think it’s best to buy the full version, the dude that made this needs more credit.

This changes everything!

First and foremost. It works!! It’s easy to set up and easy to use. You have to download Opentack to your PC, it’s free. I have zero patience for setting stuff like this up but I was up and running in about 10 minutes. I have never used Track IR so I cannot compare them. But I also cannot imagine trackIR is 150$ better than this. I play DCS, IRacing , and WarThunder. I will probably go VR in the future but I still find the image quality of VR distracting. So I’m waiting for the tech to mature. In the meantime head tracking seems to be a great in-between option. Plus if you are busy, this beats having to take off VR gear every time someone needs you. I’m going to take some time fine tuning the “curves” but even in its default state it works well. It’s the best 2$ I’ve spent in a long time!

Doesn’t work properly

This app just doesn’t work compared to other head tracking apps. If I move too far to one direction, it detects my head turning all the way around, flipping around and doing all sorts of things, just really buggy. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. I regret purchasing this

Fantastic!

I am so glad to have found this app. It works just as well as the more expensive IR head trackers for only $2! I encourage anyone to give this a try and upgrade to the $2 full version if you can. Incredible work, John! Thanks for making this available to us all.
