HelloTalk - Language Learning

I got this app 4 years ago to start learning Spanish and it was AMAZING. It really helped me improve my Spanish and people were very helpful. However, now it seems to be more of a dating app as my feed is just filled with men and I constantly have to delete chats so i don’t have a hundred “unread” messages. Overall it is a good app and has lots of helpful features without having to pay. I just wish more people would use it for language learning rather than like a social media.

I have been using Hello Talk for about a year, always buying VIP, I like the platform because you can learn languages while having fun talking to other people but this time I was banned for creating a chat with my friends from Hello Talk and I contacted Hello Talk support and they told me that I have been permanently banned, in almost a year I have never violated the rules of the platform, nor have they allowed me to create another account.

The recent update was a massive downgrade. The voice rooms are gone. I have no reason to buy VIP anymore. Also after the recent update, the connection to the server is very unstable.

I was, similarly to many others on here, banned without reason. After reaching out to support they were utterly unhelpful, responding simply by saying I’d been permanently banned. This app is a joke, as are its moderators. Find another way to learn languages if you can.

I really appreciate how much you can learn and do without having to pay. This app has been very helpful to me so far.

When I get a notification that I have received a message I go into the app and there’s a 2-5 second delay of it loading or showing the message

Now there’s a time limit for watching live?! Very greedy and unfair.This is the only app company to do this.Might as well charge us to text someone.Revert back to unlimited watching Livestreams.This has gone too far.Gove us a new payment option for those who only want to have unlimited time in voice-room and livestreams

The application is so good we can say perfect but I don’t like the Vip application There’s more things in VIP Please cancel it !

Hellotalk is not a language learning tool—it’s a glorified social chat app full of voice rooms that prioritize monetization over actual user experience or education. The app’s core focus seems to be squeezing money out of users, not fostering language exchange. The platform has serious issues with handling mass reports, fake accounts, and overall security. Users are constantly at risk of having their accounts unfairly banned due to abuse of the reporting system, and the app’s response to these issues is nonexistent. Worse, there are disturbing reports of the app leaking sensitive personal information, which is an unacceptable breach of trust. To make matters worse, there’s clear insider abuse by staff members who delete accounts to favor their friends—it feels more like a clique or toxic community than a professional platform. Paying for VIP is a waste of money. If your account gets mass-reported, you’ll lose your privileges, and the app won’t lift a finger to help. Stay far away!

Customer service is lazy as they don’t do correct research on mistakes on their end that have to do with coding. They will lie and say they’ve looked or resolved an issue when in fact they haven’t. I wish I had other bad things to say but honestly they don’t deserve one star as far as the app goes because I learn a lot and the app usually works fine. there are some days when the app lags and Customer service is just piss poor. They don’t get back to you when they say they will either, you have to repeatedly reach out. Update* Their response is “Please provide more details, including a recording, so we can address this promptly. Your feedback is important to us, and we’ll respond as soon as possible”…. This to continuously procrastinate. They ask you for screenshots and screen recordings linking your account which is okay but not after you’ve sent multiple and they’ve made contact with the correct account. Im assuming they are attempting to resolve the problem by using a generic big corporation response(waiting for you to just let it go). Which is not resolving a problem it’s loosing a customer. How many screenshots and proof do you need to simply correct an account?? Also as a business when you say “please wait our response” I expect a response. I shouldn’t have to reach out multiple times on an email thread when there’s already been conversation/contact. And then for you two tell me there’s no issue when I clearly have one. Mind you they have screenshots of the account, screen recordings in video of the account, multiple pictures of the issue that I’m seeing, and precise details of the issue explained in many ways and the timeframe in which it may have occurred. This issue has been ongoing for the past month since 11/10 and still hasn’t been resolved. Update* as of 12/09/24 issue has been resolved
