Description

How We Feel is a free app created by scientists, designers, engineers, and therapists to help people better understand their emotions and find strategies to help them navigate their emotions in the moment. Conceived in conjunction with Yale University's Center for Emotional Intelligence and based on the work of Dr Marc Brackett, How We Feel helps people find the right word to describe how they feel while tracking their sleep, exercise, and health trends using HealthKit in order to spot patterns over time.

Founded as a science-based nonprofit, How We Feel is made possible by donations from people who are passionate about bringing mental wellbeing to the widest possible audience. Our data privacy terms are clear and easy-to-understand: all of your data is kept on your device unless you opt-in to send an anonymized version of your check-ins to be used in research to help more people.

Whether you are downloading this app in order to build better relationships, make your emotions to work for you, not against you, improve how you handle stress and anxiety or simply to feel better, How We Feel will help you identify patterns through daily HealthKit tracking and find emotional regulation strategies that will work for you. The How We Feel friends feature allows you to share how you feel with the people you trust most in real time, strengthening your most important relationships.

Filled with step-by-step video strategies you can do in as little as one minute on themes like "Change Your Thinking" to help you address negative thought patterns with cognitive strategies; "Move Your Body" to express and release emotions through movement strategies;"Be Mindful" to gain perspective and minimize the negative impact of misunderstood emotions with mindfulness strategies; "Reach Out" to build intimacy and trust, two important tools for emotional wellbeing, with social strategies.

I love it

This is such an excellent app. I have been sharing t with clients and using it myself. I’m so well pleased. And for it to be free due to donars is encouraging and makes me more willing to donate and give money.

THE journaling app

htudejgd on

I’ve downloaded and tried several journaling apps with hopes of watching for mood trends. This app is the best app BY FAR. So easy to use and track. Beautiful design. I love how you can assign an emotion to your day/entry and it also gives a short explanation on what the emotion your selecting means. I will continue to use this app as I work on healing. 🙏🏼🕊️ Thank you for taking the time to make this so well functioning.

Could you please change the irritated emotion to irritable? There’s no option to describe the state of being easily irritated/triggered, which is different than being irritated because irritability isn’t specific to one trigger. Additionally, peeved has almost the same description as irritated.

Best app for tracking emotions

readingdude756 on

The whole app is very clean and straightforward. I enjoy how simple they show the emotions as colors and bite size information about what this emotion generally means. The apps flexibility with how much or little you want to make it a journal with emotions is very nice as well. There are minor things that I would like to see but dont effect the use ability of the app

Such an amazing app

Love everything about this app! The fact that it is free for users but such amazing quality is awesome! So many great features to support mental health! I have recommended it to so many people!

Better understanding of my emotions

marierousseau on

I enjoy this app very much. I like the specific choices for my emotions instead of a general “happy” or “sad”. The need to actually reflect on how I feel has greatly improved my ability to communicate them. I would like to see an Apple Watch version and perhaps emotions that relate to illness? Sometimes when I’m sick I’m in pain. There is a choice for malaise, but the definition doesn’t include a general feeling of unwellness. Thank you for this app. It is truly helpful.

Highly recommend this app

This is a really good app and I highly recommend it. I recommend it to my clients and people in my coaching programs. I think it’s really helpful to check in and keep a record of how you’re feeling especially during hard times because sometimes we can forget what triggered our moods, or how overall were feeling. This app just keeps getting better and better!

Literally the best mental health app I’ve EVER used

CascadianPrincess on

This is an incredible resource. I’m a mental health nurse and thought I understood this stuff. Turns out I needed this app to make it all click. Thank you so much for the emotionally stability this app has helped me work towards.
