Description

The first scientifically validated Heart Rate Variability (HRV) app. HRV4Training provides HRV based insights to help you quantify stress,
better balance training and lifestyle, and improve performance. HRV4Training does not require a heart rate monitor, since it can accurately assess your HRV using the phone's camera.

HRV4Training also works with Apple Watch, the Oura ring and all compatible Bluetooth SMART sensors.

HRV4Training is also the first app that goes beyond simple measurements and provides insights on:
1) acute or day to day HRV changes in response to different stressors (alcohol, travel, sick days, training, menstruation, etc.)
2) long term multi-parameter trends to look at the big picture
3) correlations between physiological measurements and annotations
4) training load analysis, fitness, fatigue, readiness to perform and injury risk
5) VO2max estimation for runners linking the app to Strava or TrainingPeaks and using a heart rate monitor during their workouts
6) Training Polarization analysis (or 80/20)
7) Lactate Threshold Estimation for runners linking the app to Strava or TrainingPeaks and using a heart rate monitor during their workouts
8) Weekly and monthly summaries to track progress.

All data is processed inside the app in order to provide you with actionable interpretations that can help optimizing your training plan and performance.

Supported devices for the camera measurement: iPhones 5, 5S, 6, 6S, 6+, 6S+, SE, 7, 7+, 8, 8+, X, XS, XS Max, XR, 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max, 12 mini, 12, 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max, 13 mini, 13, 13 Pro, 13 Pro Max, 14, 14 Plus, 14 Max, 14 Pro, 15, 15 Max, 15 Pro

Currently unsupported devices for the camera measurement: iPhones 4S, iPads and iPods - These devices require a chest strap.

Other features:
- HRV-based advice helps you to adapt your trainings based on objective measures of recovery
- TAGS: lets you tag your sleep, mental energy, muscle fatigue, stress and all other parameters that can help you understand what is influencing your physical condition and physiological stress
- Works with Bluetooth SMART heart rate monitors (a Polar H7 is recommended) or simply your phone's Camera
- Integrates with the Health app (writes heart rate, and sleep, read sleep time)
- Configurable test (single or orthostatic, choose test duration between 1, 3 or 5 minutes)
- Extracts and stores the following features while lying down and/or standing: heart rate, mean of beat-to-beat intervals (AVNN), standard deviation of beat-to-beat intervals (SDNN), square root of the mean squared difference of successive R-Rs (rMSSD), number of pairs of successive R-Rs that differ by more than 50 ms (pNN50), low frequency power (LF, 0.04-0.15 Hz), high frequency power (HF, 0.15-0.40 Hz)
- Shows the PPG signal view to ensure signal quality during the test if the camera is used instead of a bluetooth SMART sensor
- HRV4T Recovery Points to provide a single, straightforward metric to analyze your physical condition
- Population summaries and people like you comparisons to put your data into perspective
- Analysis of compliance and consistency
- Data export via email or Dropbox
- Integrates with TrainingPeaks, Oura, Strava and Coros

HRV4Training requires to register an account with your email address, so that your data can be backed up safely and retrieved in case anything happens (app issue, changing phone, etc.).

Fantastic HRV app with excellent support

Ozzy13564 on

This app provides the ability to accurately track HRV via PPG (which works very well at rest), via Apple Watch Breathe App and via many other devices such as Coros, Whoop and ECG devices such as Polar H10 and even Coros Apex 2. Context is everything if you want your HRV measurements to be meaningful and Marco (app creator) goes above and beyond with lots of educational material to read and will answer questions if you email. Higher HRV is not better than lower HRV. The most useful comparison is with your normal range and HRV4Training provides the perfect tool to visualise your morning value within the context of your normal range. If you’re using Oura ring or Coros you can also choose to use night measurements. I use an Afib history setting in heart settings in Apple Watch enabled that causes the Apple Watch to consistently measure HRV all day including during sleep. It would be great to have the option to choose night measurements for Apple Watch using HRV readings taken while asleep. You could query for beat to beat measurements in the last day and only consider values that occur during sleep to implement this.

Absolute pants. App kept crashing and Wouldn’t remember my password after nearly a month so reinstalled it and it asked me to fill all my details in again and just kept crashing. Also the web app keeps complaining of problems and won’t load. Don’t bother.

Don’t buy this.

Unusable

Boldlywithtea on

Takes multiple goes in order to get a reading using phone camera, and by then my stress level had gone up. Not a good start to the day! Not worth using unless you have an alternative sensor.

A must for anyone training seriously.

Best tool out there to measure stress and recovery, Marco is extremely available to provide support and very knowledgeable in the field. Very recommended.

An app made for the developer himself only

BlockMaster391 on

I purchased the bundled apps (useless really). Practically, only one app is usable HRV4. I wanted to understand how practically I can use the bundle/app to know more about my training. I waited two months using it daily as advertised. I even had a conversation with the developer. He is pretty much aggressive and thinks those who do not know how to use his app are “lazy” and/or “idiots”. Reading his posts on Medium, I reached the conclusion that the app is designed for him not for everyone else. Using the phone camera is not really practical and I don’t feel confident the camera reads data properly. The developer trashes Apple Watch and other watches as unreliable. The app didn’t work for me. I am deleting it. It might work for others but I doubt it.

‘Must-have’ App for the serious endurance athlete

Juicefree on

A simple to use and robust App to interpret and provide powerful, scientifically backed insight into your bodies physiological response to daily stress. M This App supports athletes who wish to utilise dynamic loading as an approach to building daily training schedules. Very easy to use and integrates extremely well with other training software. Bravo!

Second to none IMHO

I’ve been using this app for years. It’s absolutely superb in so many ways. Great team behind it too. Nothing else I’ve tried compares. Thank you all

Easy to use, reliable. They have great resources for learning and are very active in the research and community.

Long term user (athlete and coach)

Light Invisible on

HRV is one of the easiest ways to help track all-source stress and modulate training accordingly. HRV4Training is extremely user-friendly and completely open in how the advice is formulated. Nothing is hidden behind fancy terminology so you can learn to understand your body’s response to training and life stresses. I have used it myself for years and advise all the athletes I coach to use it. I adjust their training in response to help them avoid overtraining or training when unwell (illness often seems to show up in HRV before symptoms). Overall I 100% recommended this app.
