ID.me Authenticator is a simple and free multi-factor authentication (MFA) solution for your ID.me account, protecting your account from hackers by adding an additional layer of security.

ID.me Authenticator generates secure 2-step verification tokens on your device, including time-based one-time passwords, (TOTP), push notifications, or mobile security keys, to verify your identity.

When logging in, after entering in your password, you will be asked for an additional way to prove it is really you. Either approve the notification sent to the ID.me Authenticator by tapping ‘Yes’ to approve if it’s you (push notification), or enter the verification code generated by the app (TOTP).

Watch approval no longer functional

As of June 2024, the option to approve login requests on a connected and worn/authenticated apple watch no longer seems functional. This was secure and very helpful in cutting down the login time.

Terrible implementation and non-existent support

I am forced my my EHR (electronic health record) software to use ID.me for e-prescribing of controlled medications as a means of authentication. 1/4 of the time, it just does not work and requires a restart, and every time it is updated - another function breaks (authentication using Apple Watch currently does not work, after working for over a year). There is no easy way to submit a ticket either - as their own system of problem submission is no longer supported! What a horror show - steer clear of any EHR that uses this method of authentication.

No more push notifications

I’m not sure what has changed or if this is a bug. However, for the past week or two, I have been unable to authenticate myself quickly via iPhone through a simple push notification OR on my Apple Watch! Peers I work with are also having this problem. 2 extra clicks adds up after the 50th prescription refill! Apps should be making things easier. -I’ll gladly change my review if this is fixed

Deployment of this concept wasn’t and still isn’t that great. When I started seeing this a few years ago to verify my identity for discounts, I had no idea what it was or if it was legit & secure. Also, change wigit title to ‘ID.me’ instead of just ‘authenticator.’ I have different authenticator apps & I never know which is which until I push on it!

This company needs a class action lawsuit

ID.Me is a scam. There is no legitimate way to contact anyone if you have technical issues or issues with them accepting your paperwork. On Reddit, one user had been waiting over a month for his ticket to be responded to so he could pay the IRS and the ticket to this day has still not been resolved. I can concur with my own experience that they do not respond to help requests. The paperwork I submitted that was ultimately “rejected” by ID.Me was my marriage certificate and licenses (old and new) which are the same exact photos/files I used to move my 401ks and bank accounts with success. I hope they get sued for being so negligent.

This app has only helped my information to be compromised, and probably stole at some point, there’s no Customer service rep and the stupid robot doesn’t help at all, I deleted /closed my profile due to error and errors, and the Florida benefits can’t be accessed easily and on top of all of this the benefits were delayed, and I though I will never use it back . No wonder there’s a lot of poverty in FL right now … Before this app I could easily access the DEO. I need to ask a simply question and since you’re listening my calls and reviewing my pics please reply back .

So stupid, why can’t they text my phone? Between school and work I have 4 separate authentication apps.
