Description

iGIS - The world's first and leading iOS GIS.
True GIS functionality is now available on the iPhone! Your iPhone. Your data. Your maps.
iGIS represents a new era in mobile GIS solutions by enabling users to load, view, investigate, create and export their own data over a background of map service imagery.

Importing data is easy with our unique data import facility using the USB cable or wirelessly on your Mac, PC and Linux. Raster data in many formats (pre-processing required) and ESRI Shapefiles (.shp) are supported at the moment.
Your spatial data is stored on the iPhone, so there’s no need for an Internet connection to see your data – great for field work. We also support over 3000 projections, so no need for re-projection.

We include support for multiple layers of points, lines, and polygons – all styled as you like. Imagery layers too in V5.

Add comments to your maps - A point layer is added with a name and description field.
Add and edit your own layers, via the map display and customisable data entry forms.
Export your layers to ESRI shapefiles for use back in your enterprise.

Other features include:

- Great speed, using our multi-threaded map renderer.
- Support for large datasets.
- Import and export of ESRI Shapefiles.
- Display current GPS location in your chosen projection ( + compass)
- Zoom to current location
- Zoom to data extent
- Map Pan, zoom in, zoom out
- Changeable drawing styles for a layer: size, color, transparency
- Set the draw order and visibility of map layers
- Set the zoom scale for layers via a simple slider
- Select and interrogate feature attributes via point and click

This application is designed for GIS professionals and an understanding of some basic GIS concepts such as layers, shapefiles, projections etc, would make using iGIS simpler. Please let us know if concepts in iGIS are unclear.

Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.

Best GIS app in App Store

chaddavis on

United States

I've looked at every app in the App Store surrounding mapping and this is easily the best - outside of the ridiculously priced $300 apps which I didn't try. Highly recommended to anyone who wants offline shapefiles on their device. Two features I wish it had though are the ability to connect to WMS and to be able to click any line to get features without having to change the viewing layer that's active. Great work, hope it continues to be developed!

Best GIS on iOS

For my needs, this is the best GIS / GPS app for iOS. You can quickly and easily load, view, and edit shapefiles in a streamlined interface without a bunch of hassle. For more complicated field data collection and editing, you might want ArcPad, but if you want to do something straightforward like locate yourself in relationship to GIS layers and add record features, iGIS is dramatically more enjoyable to use and has a fraction of the learning curve. Oh, and you can have layers with different coordinate systems!

This app is great if you are familiar with GIS. I work for a water utility and after loading in our shape files, this works like a dream.

Cool but misleading in some respects

I have been trying to find an easy-to-use GIS app to incorporate shapefiles and raster data into my daily fieldwork. I was excited to find this one, and it does have its perks. There are tons of choices for projections and the interface is pretty intuitive (with some major exceptions). There are quite a few inconveniences and drawbacks, however. - To import raster data you have to have processed it using MapTiler, an open source software program that is only free if your images are smaller than a certain size (we are talking like 30 MB or less here) which is just not feasible for someone doing actual GIS work. - All of the raster and shapefiles must be zipped and hosted on Dropbox (which is cool and convenient if you have enough space) - you can also use a USB. - There is no intuitive way to add the imported layers to your project, and there does not appear to be a help file for the latest release, so this is somewhat frustrating (and as I write this I still have not figured out how to add my imported shapefiles). - Would be nice if it displayed your location or coordinates anywhere in the free version since there are free apps that also do this.

All your files must be zipped to add. I don't have stuff zipped. What a pain. I like to add files from here and there. Looks cool though, probably won't use it.

No hassle point collector

I was looking for a quick app to collect points around town and this app lets you dive right in.

Great App

I'm really impressed by this app for the price. I've loaded a variety of shp files into it and it seems to work with them really well, in fact, possibly better than my Trimble Recon I.E. scrolling, getting attribute info... You can record points, lines, & polygons. Also, it caches Google Maps.

App Crashes

Works pretty good most of the time. Tends to crash a lot. Need to work that out

Excellent

Great app at a great price. I use this app almost everyday for work. One suggestion would be a way to download base map files to use in areas of no reception.

Mixed feelings about new release

McCain's on

United States

I've been loving the app and have bragged about its versatility. I use it everyday, all day in my work truck doing field work and in the office. All of my apple devices have it. My primary device is my 4th gen iPad with cellular. The app crashed frequently, especially when changing data settings. That was ok because I knew the update was coming. The phone version made me really excited because of the new map gestures and google maps. However the iPad app has been very frustrating. Constant crashing, lethargic map loading, and the failure of the zoom scale have plagued my device. The phone app has not crashed as often and is faster on the map loading. However the zoom scale is still dead. Hope you guys get this fixed! A little heads up on future fixes would be nice!
