It comes in 2 Editions: Standard and Pro (previously known as Premium). It features: • 6 Tanpuras (10 on Pro Edition) • 2 Tablas (3 on Pro Edition) • a Swarmandal • a Vibraphone (Pro Edition only) • a Harmonium • 3 Manjeeras (6 on Pro Edition) all fully customisable in practice sessions that can then be loaded on demand. It effectively replaces a tabla machine, a lehra player and an electronic tanpura. It is therefore an ideal tool for anyone practicing Indian classical music, or just wishing to jam along virtual Indian musicians on any other musical style. iShala includes over 60 rhythmic cycles, melodies in more than 110 ragas and 7 different tempos. You can also create your own ragas and fine-tune each of their notes at micro-tones (or shrutis) level. Possible combinations are thus nothing short of endless! iShala initially comes in Standard Edition, but you can upgrade it to Pro Edition through an In-App purchase option. These are one-time payments; whatever the edition you choose, you can use the app forever. Standard Edition has all the features you need for your riyaaz, and more. But Pro Edition adds some really exciting functionality like: • pitch correction: iShala detects the note you are currently singing, along with a coloured meter highlighting whether you are right on pitch or not. I have seen improvements in the app in the last 3 years since I started using it. You can use it as a tanpura, to play a lehera so you can practice tabla along with it as well as an electronic tabla so you can sing or play your own instrument. Or all of it together... Why not? :-) You can obviously change pitch and tempo. And what is cool is also the raga of the lehera nagma. However I ran out of anything good to say beyond this. The sound of the tanpura is probably the best thing in the app. The harmonium sounds terrible, the various ragas are a joke. And the tabla sound too is ok. The interface has not been updated in the last couple of years so it really feels dated and not very iOS friendly. And it crashes consistently unless you fiddle around with the app before starting the lehera or tanpura. I am probably going to have to buy iTabla Pro as people are saying that sounds amazing. The interface for that too is quite terrible from what I can make out from screenshots. Ok, I too have itabla. And while yes that app is absolutely great for tabla options, this app however has by far the better tanpura sound quality, and the tabla is really not bad either. So yes I will use itabla when I want to emphasize tabla, and I use this app when I want a tanpura. So really I don't know why the other 2 or 3 reviewers have given this app a bad comparison with itabla. They are two different apps altogether. Only thing I would add would be to replace that aggravating harmonium with a nicer-on-the-ears sound, say an actual traditional Indian instrument like a sarangi or something. So at this time I have to say i just never use the harmonium part at all.
