How much does iVegan cost?
iVegan has several in-app purchases/subscriptions, the average in-app price is £1.29.
just got the app, out of the first 5 scans from items in my kitchen cupboard, it only recognised 3 items and of the 3 could only confirm that 1 of them was vegan and for the other items it wanted me to tell the app whether the item was vegan or not?! I bought an app for the definite answers not to help build the developers database for the items they haven’t gotten round to adding on the app. all items found in tesco so all readily available!
Frustrating
This app makes you watch adverts in the middle of shopping, seems to know when your rushing.
Says things aren’t vegan when they are and have ingredients in that are not on the packet.
Can not find 70% of products.
It’s useless, definitely don’t pay for it .
As soon as I paid the app stopped working!
Got the free version and was quite impressed. However after watching 30 seconds of adverts after each scan I thought what the hell and upgraded to the premium version - only £1.29 monthly. As soon as I tried it again the app didn’t work!!! I can see products I’d already scanned and also the recipes, but get no response when I push the button to scan something. Very poor - I feel as if I’ve been robbed…
More miss than hit
Unfortunately for UK users this app is more miss than hit. Using this app to check stuff in UK Supermarkets showed the app to have very few items found and that’s not great for subscribers. (That’s not the apps fault btw)
The problem for people following a Vegan lifestyle is that a lot of product labels are not showing items as suitable for Vegans when they may be.
Product labels need to list ALL allergens and if marked as suitable for Vegetarians and there’s no sneaky honey in the ingredients list then it may be considered ‘accidentally vegan’ or ‘Vegan by recipe’.
So when an app like this shows up you think great; except it’s not that great.
Hopefully one of two things will improve in time…
Either labels will get better or this app will get better.
Unfortunately until that time you will have to keep checking the labels, because even though the word Vegan is about 90 years old; animals are still suffering needlessly for the pleasure of humans.
Ironically a lot of ‘non vegans’ (normal people??) claim to be animal lovers but are happy for animals to be killed for them to eat.
I think that’s strange.
Kudos to the app developers for taking this on because it’s not an easy task.
Dissapointed
Whatever I scan it just has a loading icon infinitely. Doesn’t work at all.
Rubbish
App is rubbish. The products are either not found or it don’t know enough about the products. Would not select any stars if I could.
Inaccurate
Seems to work by picking up on ingredients that aren’t vegan- but misses some that are not. Eg. I scanned a cereal containing vitamin d, which can be animal-derived. The supermarket does not list it as vegan-friendly, however this app says it is. I can’t trust this.
Useful app
Useful app, could be better, more recipes, it says when stuff is not vegan when it is (which isn’t helpful)
More updated recipes would be better and also a page full of vegan products already would be helpful. Maybe also a community page where people can talk.
Great app
Enjoy using the app, but could do with adding some more products to it.
SORT YOUR APP
Your app is claiming many vegan products are not vegan which in fact those products don’t contain any animal products at all. There is a lack of knowledge in your team what is an animal product and what isn’t. Sort this out.
