Description

John Gill’s Bible Commentary app is a must have on your gadget if you desire to study the Word of God deeper and gain different perspectives. John Gill’s Bible Commentary app offers a complete exposition of the Word of God verse by verse.

John Gill was an English Baptist pastor, a biblical scholar and a theologian who was very dedicated to the Word of God since his childhood days. His work retains influence into the 21st century. He was also argued as a hyper-Calvinist but it was an academic debate. Nonetheless, when John Gill was twelve years old, he heard a sermon from his pastor where God said to Adam, “Where art thou?” (Genesis 3:9) and the message led to his conversion.

The Word of God is an important part of our daily walk as followers of the Lord Jesus Christ. And reading it daily is for the transformation and renewal of strength of your body, soul and spirit protecting you against the works of the devil and of the flesh. The Word of God is a fountain of life, full of God’s promises to all His children. It serves as our hope, our light and our daily communication to the Father.

And in the light of reading and studying the Word of God, there are aids to help you understand the Bible better such as Bible commentaries from other theologians. A Bible commentary is written by a commentator in a series of notes which explains the meaning of passages of Scripture and or its historical context that may reflect the beliefs and perspective of the writer.
And John Gill was one of the commentators who did exhaustive look at the Bible almost verse per verse. His writings tried to explain the passage of the Scripture considering the historical background and perspective of the Jews when the Word of God was written.

In Hebrews 4:12, John Gill exposed, “This is to be understood of Christ, the essential Word of God; for the Word of God was a known name of the Messiah among the Jews; and therefore the apostle makes use of it when writing to them…”

Therefore, John Gill’s Bible Commentary app is useful also for those who desire to dig deeper in the Jewish roots of the Bible.

John Gill

Workman Approved on

This is a blessing for me in my study, searching and seeking God and his word.

Navigation!

NewDayPastor on

I like the content and accuracy, but it is difficult to navigate. To go from one book to another or the next verse without going to the first page is too much.

I am fortunate.

Thank you to the one who saw to it that this be turned into an app. This is my most favorite app in the world. It has helped me so much in my understanding of God and what his words mean. And even though MrGill’s personal opinions shine through on some aspects. It’s fine! There is room and explanation enough to come a way understanding what the Lord wants for me in it. I use it on the plane when the is no access to wi-fi, to read the bible. I use it at night to read to me when I am getting off to sleep😄When I find anything I don’t understand. I look to see what he thinks about it😅He is like the very best Grand-Pa. Thank you for letting me share my heart on this.

Good, but….

Keenia on

Fix the navigation please. Having to go all the way out of a book and then find it again just to get to the next verse is archaic.

Disappointing - Navigation Weak

Carol in IL on

Content is great, but navigation leaves much to be desired. After each verse, you must back up and re select the next verse. It really needs a swipe feature to advance. If that isn't frustrating enough, there's a full screen ad to interrupt your progress. I spent 5 minutes in the app before deleting and spent more time navigating and waiting than reading. I'll go the web to get the same content for free with easy scrolling - and no interrupting ads.

Navigation a problem

merryelle on

I agree with the other users, this navigation is terrible. You cannot go from verse to verse you have to back out and choose the whole book, chapter, and verse all over again instead of just continuing from one chapter to the next by a swipe. Fix this and you get a 5 star review.

Nice, But Need Improvement

Saved By Geace on

I like the content. But it’s difficult to study. When using the commentary you cannot transition between chapters, verses or references. Please update the app to swipe from verse to verse within the chapters. You also cannot go back to your verse after you tap on the (blue hyperlink) reference scripture. You have to search for the chapter and the verse again and again, and again. This makes it difficult for the reader to study. John Gill has always been my go to study bible and I liked how it used to transitioned from verse to verse with the details of the commentary.

Horrible navigation makes it useless

Stoopidnick on

You have to choose each verse exactly to bring up commentary. So if Gill went ten verses before commenting, you go through a three step process on each verse to figure this out.

Great app, just one change

rcandamoonpie on

I love the app. Just one change needed: Make a way to go to the exposition of the next verse or previous verse without having to go back out. Either a swipe left or right would be great. A link would also work.
