## Kalalau Description
THE KAUAI COMPANION FOR NA PALI HIKING — OFFLINE & PRIVATE
This app was crafted with aloha to help navigate Kaua'i's legendary North-shore trails. Kalalau is your trusted, completely offline companion for the Na Pali Coast and Park. Whether you’re heading to Hanakapi'ai Beach or Falls for the day, or preparing for the Kalalau Trail, everything you need lives right on your device - no cell service required.

TRAILS & NAVIGATION
• Choose your route: Kalalau Trail, Hanakapi'ai Beach, or Hanakapi'ai Falls, and get trail-specific maps with Points of Interest (POIs), photos, and notes.
• See real-time distances from your exact location to key landmarks, trailheads, and turnarounds.
• Interactive map shows your position the moment Location is enabled. It's perfect for on-trail orientation.
• One-way or round-trip distance and time estimates that match real trail conditions.
• Beautiful elevation profiles that update based on your chosen trip type so you know exactly what you’re climbing into.

WEATHER & RIVER CONDITIONS & DAYLIGHT
• Comprehensive NOAA / National Weather Service forecast - current conditions, hourly updates, extended outlook, and official weather alerts.
• Hanakapi'ai River level gauge indicator: know water conditions before you leave for the trail. Stream context from USGS data for extra awareness on water-dependent hikes.
• Sunrise and sunset times plus a live “time to sunset” countdown so you always respect daylight.

PREPARE • HIKE • REFLECT
• Built-in Hiking Directory with clear, practical guidance for before, during, and after your adventure, packing lists, safety reminders, and post-hike reflection prompts.
• Suggested water intake calculator that also estimates calories burned. Stay fueled and hydrated on long days.
• Comprehensive Shuttle & Access Dashboard to manage your logistics. View real-time schedule countdowns, explore shuttle stop amenities, and book your park entry from all in one place.

DISCOVER & CONNECT
• Rich Hawaiian Cultural Library filled with legends, mythology, and stories of the North Shore of Kaua'i and Kalalau. Deepen your connection to the 'aina you’re walking through.
• Quick, shareable check-in messages with coordinates. Let loved ones know you’re safe when you have a signal.

BUILT FOR LONG DAYS ON THE TRAIL
• Smart Power Saving GPS modes that stretch your battery across multi-hour hikes.
• High Noon Mode: a bright, sun-friendly interface that stays readable even in harsh tropical light (or switch to darker mode when you prefer).
• All maps, weather, gauges, profiles, and cultural content work completely offline. Your GPS track and location never leave your device.

PRIVACY FIRST
No accounts. No profiles. No data uploaded. Kalalau App respects the spirit of the trails. Your journey stays yours.

FIRST RUN
A gentle in-app tour shows you how the dashboard, map, and tools work together so you can hit the trail confident and prepared.

IMPORTANT
Trail conditions, closures, permits, flash-flood risk, and river levels change quickly. Kalalau is an informational companion, not a replacement for official notices, permits, signage, qualified guides, or your own good judgment. Always verify current conditions and rules before you go. Hike responsibly, with aloha.

### ***** "A Lifesaver on the Trail 🙏"
One of the best hiking apps I have ever used. The offline map worked perfectly where there was no cell service, and the trail information was accurate, detailed, and easy to understand. I felt much safer knowing what to expect and where I was at all times. I also appreciate that the content is based on reliable sources rather than personal assumptions. Thank you to the developer for creating such a valuable tool that helps hikers stay informed and safe.
