Kino FAQ
Is Kino free?
Yes, Kino is completely free and it doesn't have any in-app purchases or subscriptions.
Is Kino legit?
🤔 The Kino app's quality is mixed. Some users are satisfied, while others report issues. Consider reading individual reviews for more context.
I’m really enjoying the cinematic touch this app gives iPhone videos. In so many ways, Apple hardware is capable of pro-level content. But the software is of course focused on everyday users, leaving a lot of potential unrealized. Apps like this one solve that problem for people who want to make pro-level stuff on a device in their pockets or who want their everyday stuff to look just right.
A few feature requests:
1- Sliders on the color style options. All the LUTs look great for longer, movie-length works. But most of us are making 45-second stories and reels that need a more subtle look.
2- An iPad/Mac control and monitor app. This may be moot with iPhone mirroring now available on Mac. But it would allow us to use the front camera for talking head videos.
3- Something like Apple’s Cinematic/Portrait Mode. I know it’s distinctly not pro or cinematic, but it’s nice sometimes to blur the background a little more than the hardware allows for.
Ain’t all that
Yea not worth the money.
Incredible, just get it!
This app is amazing for travel! No frills, the built in LUTs are great, and I can just hand my phone to a family member to film without them needing to know anything about cameras! Keep up the good work and I appreciate you guys for making a great product 🍻
Not worth $10
Apple reviews gives rave reviews BUT I’m suspicious on their $10 fee as being motivation for their review. Blackmagic Cam is free and I think their interface is better. For what it’s worth . . .
Stop asking me to review
Every god dang time I open the app
Great but lacking a bit of
It’s cool in many aspects and I believe there are certain key features that would make it better such a process zero feature similar to halide, more intuitive manual control, adjustable LUT intensity, and seamless lens switching.
Incredible video app
This app really helped take my video to the next level. Best app I’ve downloaded all year.
⚠️Before You Buy❗️
I love the simplicity and beauty of this app—it’s very well-designed. However, there are a few issues with the touch controls. The buttons aren’t sensitive enough, making it difficult to adjust settings without repeatedly tapping or swiping. Adjusting the ISO slider is particularly challenging in landscape mode, as it often will switch out of the app.
Switching between lenses is also quite slow, and I wish I could still adjust focus by tapping the screen, even when manual focus is enabled. Additionally, many buttons and controls frequently fail to respond, even after restarting the app or my iPhone.
I also wish there was an option to select exactly which folder in the Files app I want to save my content to. Being able to choose the bitrate for videos would be a great addition. It would also be fantastic to have the ability to set points A, B, and possibly C for manual and automatic focus modes, as well as for zoom, with customizable transitions, such as adjustable speed.
Another feature I’d love to see is the ability to save at least 3-5 manual custom settings, with options to name them and add icons for easy identification. Additionally, the app should always remember the last used settings, even if they weren’t saved, or at least provide an option to enable this feature. Having the ability to adjust video stabilization would make it even more versatile.
This app would be amazing if it included settings for professional-grade photography. Even though I already use another app purely for photography, ProCamera, if this app could do all of that, I would easily make it my number one camera app—even replacing my native camera app. Lastly, if it’s possible to include iPhone’s cinematic mode with the option to record at higher frame rates, like 48 or 60 fps, even on the iPhone 15 line, this app would truly be unbeatable.
Thanks for reading! It still has a long way to go before I can make the switch from Blackmagic Cam app, but it truly has potential, assuming that the devs actually give us custom presets, unlike Halide cam where they never bothered to
Lacking one key feature
This is a really good camera app and I wanna be able to use it more and open it with camera control on the iPhone 16 along with being able to zoom in more then just 2x
Will change to five stars if…
This app is so close to perfect. I want geotagging because I shoot a lot of ten second or so video when traveling and would love to have a map of those shots. I also REALLY want to assign this to the iPhone 16 Pro camera button, and can’t currently. With these two features this is easily a five star video camera app.
