Welbeck's Atlas of Great Journeys is a beautifully illustrated atlas of some of the most famous, dangerous and record-breaking journeys throughout history. This app brings the maps to life, making the routes of the journey appear right on the page.
- View the map pages through the app to see the routes of three historic journeys on every map. Follow the ships, horses, sleds and planes as they move across the map, and learn the story of each explorer's travels.
- Weather conditions let you visualise the intense conditions that the explorers had to endure, from storms at sea to freezing snow, baking deserts and more. - Tap the explorers' vehicles and animals to enlarge them and examine them from any angle. How it works:Once you press the play button on the app’s opening screen, simply look at the map pages of your Atlas of Great Journeys book through the app, and follow the on-screen instructions. If you don’t already have the book, tap the play button on the app's opening screen and wait for 20 seconds to get a link to a retail page outside the app where the book can be purchased. This free app is available to anyone with a compatible iPhone or iPad running iOS 11.3 and above, iPhone SE and above, and iPad 5th Gen. and above.

The time for starting a tour (within 24 hours) doesn’t stick when I save after editing a tour which is part of a multi day collection.
Also after editing a tour which is part of a multi day collection and clicking on the back arrow it takes me to the Tour bottom tab. When I then click on the Collections bottom tab it takes me back to the tour I edited and the back arrow then works correctly to take me out to the Collection.
Pointless push notifications
Telling me to go out and enjoy the long days in the middle of winter. Utterly pointless notifications, wasting my time. Have deleted the app and won't use it again.
Never works
Horrible to use, annoying, always takes off road and never follows roads. Hard when making out and back segments as won’t allow to continue back down a road you have already come up. Don’t try your luck with this.
Missing functionality
What if I am doing a round trip? If I set start and end points at the same location, it won’t take me where I want to go. I already have a GPX track downloaded for the mountain biking trail I want to do (a 52km loop through the mountains in Queenstown, NZ called Coronet Loop Track). I tried to set the start and end point at the same spot and then multiple waypoints along the trail that I want to do but it’s just super clunky and requires me to know exactly where I am going on this not so detailed map. Would be easier if I could just load in my GPX file…. Kinda useless for round trips and only good for A to B trips.
Response to developers response: Great so it still doesn’t change the fact that in order to use that I need to know exactly where the trail goes on your not-so-detailed Topo map. Why can’t I just upload the GPX track that I already have on hand that clearly describes every single twist and turn of the trail that I want to ride? Keep in mind, the only reason I am using this app is because it’s the only navigation app that is compatible with my Bosch ebike so I’m kind of forced to use this system. It seems to be set up for semi-adventurous people and not people that actually want to do proper missions through the mountains.
Fixed
Was crashing for me when I initially installed but this resolved after I updated from iOS 14.x to 15.x. Works well now, thanks
Good but has some issues that need to be fixed
It is an excellent app generally. Though not without its hitches. In bike touring mode the app has a tendency to route you onto trails (sometimes hiking trails) that are sometimes totally unsuitable for any riding, save perhaps mountain biking. I have had multiple issues with this and now only use the road riding planner for long journeys. One way to fix this issue that would also be useful as an app feature would be the ability to select what type of trails the planner will and won’t put you on. Another feature that I would love to see is an optimisation feature that allows you to minimise climbing in exchange for longer rides because currently the app seems to only optimise for distance. One major issue I have with this app is the problem of some planned routes glitching and being unable to be edited on IOS devices. It is extremely frustrating when you have spent hours planning a multi hundred kilometre journey to suddenly not be able to make changes and to have to scrap your entire route and start again from scratch. That is not something I paid for member for. This needs to be fixed!!!. Otherwise this app is excellent for planning hiking and cycling routes. It is wonderful to be able to find unique beautiful places to travel to simply by browsing the map.
Would highly recommend!
Works very well with my WAHOO Element. Great for finding new cycling routes and planning rides.
Awesome for trip planning
Does suck a lot of battery if you use it on the go but it is a fantastic way to plan trips and check progress along the way! Highly recommend!
