Good app. Excellent for repetition, recall and memorization
I've used as a refresher and to build vocabulary as having lived in the Netherlands several years (worked in an English environment) this is a great way to supplement and refresh. I've used the Czech program with good success to complement other learning tools with great success as here I get reading as well. I enjoy the application.
My husband is from the Netherlands and as I have been using this app to learn Dutch he has been helping me and has pointed out a few translations that were off. He has corrected them for me so I learn the correct translations but someone who might be using this on their own without a Dutch husband to explain incorrect translations will be learning a few wrong things. Overall the app is great, I love the design, the ease of use and simplicity, plus lots to learn. Another thing I've noticed is the audio translation doesn't always work. One out of five times it works, otherwise I don't know what the trick is bc my phone settings are always the same so it has to be something that occasionally messes up within the app itself, not a huge deal but learning how to say the words correctly is a pretty important part and without a Dutch person helping you, you could be learning the wrong pronunciations and as my husband has stressed, pronunciation when learning Dutch is very important. This is honestly the best teaching app for Dutch that I've downloaded so far. I'm hoping that the things that are buggy will be fixed and maybe even the off translations fixed, then this app would be amazing!
Have used this app since 2 1/2 years first on iPod touch which no longer receives updates and 2 years on iPad. Full of mistakes and too America centric. If I'm learning Dutch I want to hear Dutch voices even when speaking English. I want to see and hear things relevant to Dutch culture. There are many stupid errors in spelling, words spoken different from word printed plus numerous other ridiculous or lazy mistakes. I updated last week, first in a long time. All it does is crash. Deleted it and reloaded older version from my back up. Now another update. Was sceptical so avoided it. But I'm no longer getting notifications for new word. So I just tried the new update. Same crap. So now I'm done. Pity!
I've been using wordpower for over a year and out of the five languages I have, this is the only one in the old format. I understand that Dutch may not be their highest priority but the audio sample sentences are what makes the other apps so great and I hope they update it soon.

Downloaded this to my iPad and it didn't work. It displayed one word: "999" (not exactly the most useful beginner word). I had no other options to click on. It had forward and back arrows, presumably to go to the next word, but those didn't work. The functionality to record your own voice was also broken. Clicking on settings displayed nothing. If you want to waste 15 minutes downloading this app to learn how to say "999" in Dutch, go for it. If you plan to learn anything else, avoid this app.
I have this exact same app for Spanish and find that useful, but this Dutch version is terrible. There are a handful of Dutch words that are the same as their English counterparts and for some reason these seem to be the only words that come up. It will often have something stupid like "English: airport... Dutch: airport". Well gee, thanks. That was really useful. /sarcasm - Needs to be setup so that only words that are different come up. I'm not learning anything by constantly showing me words that are the exact same in English.
Some words and phrases relevant and interesting. The update didn't fix the audio problem.
My intention was to collect my "one word a day" until I had lots of words and enough time to study them this Summer. After a month of diligently downloading one word at a time, the program updated and deleted my entire word bank. If you really want to build your vocabulary, don't waste your time or money investing in this product.
