I wanted something like Balatro but without the integration of Tarot cards (not everyone loves occult symbolism). So I won’t play Balatro, even though I liked the overall idea. I just won’t play a game with Tarot. I also wanted portrait mode and a minimalistic vibe. And I enjoy a word game, even though I wouldn’t say I’m great at them. But I couldn’t find anything. Until I searched again and found Letterlike randomly. OMG, what a great game, an awesome and new mashup that really works! And you can play in short spurts since it saves after a round. Essential for busy people. This is really fun to play, and you always feel a sense of progression. I highly recommend it, and appreciate the fair premium monetizing with no ads, no data collection, no internet required, and small file size and good battery consumption. And it’s family friendly, nothing offensive or off-putting. Mostly it’s intuitive, and you learn by just trying. A couple things in the store I’m not sure what they do (there are buttons about words and tiles, rerolls or something, but I’m not clear on what they do, how that works). Still, this is an awesome game. I’m a casual player, don’t care about learning a bunch of synergies, yet still this is fun to play. A hardcore gamer will like it too. Something for everyone here. Thank you developer for doing it all right. It doesn’t have the polish of larger studio games, but that just adds to its charm. Has a cool game loop with a sweet upgrade system and shop to buy stuff. It’s challenging and makes you think which is a good thing. Also fun for short sessions if you want something to kill a little time vs doom scrolling on social media. Looking forward to see what the updates do for the game later on. Def Plan on playing it a lot more. I’ve been struggling towards the final round to hit the word score. But practice makes perfect ha! This one ticks all the boxes - and it's almost TOO hard, but that's what I love about Roguelike. I've played maybe 25 games and have yet to beat it. I'm excited to see how the game evolves. Hats off to you Ronald! -- Lamm, 2024-12-26 ### ***-- "Shallow, needs balancing" Scrabble meets Balatro. A promising idea, but falls short of its inspiration. Here are some of the issues I think need addressing: 1. No deck-building mechanics. You start with the standard scrabble bag and you keep it the entire run. A method to obtain more blanks and “stack the deck” in your favor is an obvious solution, but I admit this is tougher to implement with scrabble. I know there are other starter bags but I’ve yet to unlock one for reasons I’ll discuss later. 2. Some of the modifiers (Jokers) are essentially not viable due to boss mechanics. Every time I’ve tried to use a +LS/discard build, I’ve inevitably run into a boss that takes all of your discards (and 2 words on top of that??) which is an instant loss. There is no way to avoid this except to get lucky. 3. It is impossible to win when you first start. The game’s roguelike progression is locked behind the acquisition of gems, which you acquire by clearing rounds. You will be very lucky to get 5 in a game at the start and the first upgrade to unlock another (Joker) slot costs 25. I do not think it is mathematically possible to beat the lowest difficulty out of the gate. This is a major design flaw. 4. Continuing from 3, the game is harder and slower than balatro (much more thinking required) but the grind is longer and less rewarding. When I spend 30 minutes on a run that ends not even halfway to a win and I’m rewarded with 5 gems, I do not feel good.
