However, the analysis board on iPad is glitchy compared to the iPhone version. The analysis variations sometimes show and sometimes don’t even though the evaluation toggle is on and the evaluation bar is showing. I have been waiting for this app for a while. As of now 8/19/2025 you should keep the old iOS app or use Safari (TLDR at the bottom) The good The new UI is intuitive and easy to navigate. Accessing studies and puzzles is super easy. Access to broadcasts/top games/streamers is all in one location. The game plays well on the app. The bad. If you want to analyze a game with an engine you just cannot. The engine will freeze if you click between positions too fast. It’s buggy at best and nonfunctional on average. Why can I not create a new study? I can add stuff to any of my older studies but I cannot create a new study? Why do we still not have access to the coaches page? You can no longer access tournaments through the mobile app. I believe this is due to the fact that if you joined a tournament on mobile (only with the new app not the old one) it would just not send you to the game and you would auto forfeit without ever knowing you were paired. I had this happen several times to me and now the tournaments have been removed from mobile. It does feel like I have the slightest smallest lag on this mobile app compared to the old one but that could be something on my end or my imagination. You can essentially play chess but you lose access to almost everything else. You have no access to forums or blogs. Chess community is very important and the lack of it makes the app feel.. well lonely. Why is the ability to report a bug a hidden feature? Reporting a bug is a core feature of EVERY app. I had to click on everything and eventually found it under “about” which is the literal last place I checked. Which when you click the feedback button it opens safari and has you navigate the website through safari. Why? Why? I have no access to lobby only quick pairing. If I want to play a longer time control it can often always be faster to use the lobby and see what other longer times people are waiting to play. Not having access to this makes it so pairings can take forever in a longer time control and without access to tournaments you cannot access the longer time control tournaments. Which feels like it’s blitz or bullet or wait forever. TLDR Engine analysis is broken. If i have an issue i need to use safari to report the issue. No access to tournaments. No access to forums. No access to blogs. No access to coaching. Cannot create study. No access to Lobby only quick pair. I am very very pro lichess and if it was anyone else this would be a one star. Amazing work, devs! -- acedaway, 2025-08-17 ### *---- "Less study capabilities" Less engine lines, STILL can’t comment on moves or annotate in studies. Players’ names aren’t on the game, and times aren’t on the board in studies. I can’t flip the board anymore, and I can’t sort the studies under “studies I contribute to” by anything (ex: recently updated). The links posted in study comments are also just text now. I was hoping the devs would open links referring to other lichess games within the app. One star because I’m unsure how this is an upgrade. Even the board is more chess.com-like, instead of having its own feel.
