## Lingora Description

WHAT'S IN A COURSE
Each sentence gets a full lesson wrapped around it. 500 English sentences in all, hand-picked to cover every grammar structure and the full A1 vocabulary.

Each word comes with its own full dictionary entry: definition with examples, any conjugation or declension it takes, the grammar topics behind it, and stroke-by-stroke guidance for new scripts. If you want to know why a word looks the way it does, the app can tell you.

HOW A LESSON WORKS
Each lesson opens with the intro. You hear the sentence before you see what it means. Slow it down, replay as often as you want. Then the Word Breakdown. Tap any word to see what it means and the grammar behind it. Then the literal, word-for-word translation. Then the grammar topics sitting inside the sentence.

After the intros, the main session starts. Words and sentences from the current lesson get mixed with whatever's due for review, chosen by the spaced-repetition algorithm so you're practicing what you're closest to forgetting. Your own chosen exercise mix prioritizing reading, writing, or listening. Premium users can even further fine-tune exactly which exercises appear.

25+ WAYS TO PRACTICE
Six word games and six sentence games. Flashcards you design yourself, picking what goes on each side. Quick-review tables. Multiple-Choice. Context-clue fill-ins where the wrong answers are similar on purpose. Character stroke practice with real-time validation. Typing exercises with a virtual keyboard. A speech trainer with per-word, color-coded feedback. An AI chat that stays on the lesson's topic and corrects you as you go. And so much more..

REFERENCE
A dictionary that searches in native script, in transliteration, or in English. It finds base forms and inflected forms alike.

A grammar guide covering every topic that appears in the course. Each has a thorough write-up and example sentences, plus the words and lesson sentences that show it in use.

A pronunciation guide covering every consonant and vowel in the language.

Tone guides for tonal languages. Script courses for writing systems you haven't learned yet. Conjugation tables for every verb and noun. Character breakdowns for CJK languages.

WAYS TO FINE-TUNE
Three sliders to weight reading, writing, and listening in each session. Silent mode for studying in public. Transliteration style where more than one exists (Jyutping or Yale, and so on). Diacritics on or off. Full control over what the app does.

PROGRESS
You'll see progress word by word and lesson by lesson. There's a streak counter, stars on completed lessons, and a weekly leaderboard if you want one. None of it is forced on you. Lifetime users can also export anything they've learned as an Anki deck.

As the title says, whenever I open the app and select the course that I want, it at first says to try again later. Then when I click it again, it says the audio files are 0% loaded even when I wait.

### ***** "Great App & Responsive Dev"
I started using this app to learn Cantonese and it’s been awesome! I started with Japanese last year using a combination of resources (wanikani, bunpro, anki etc) and I was having a hard time finding an app/apps that could replicate that, but with Cantonese. Lingora meets that sweet spot for me as a catch-all app of grammar, character recognition, and vocabulary. I had also reached out to the dev to ask about a feature I thought would be awesome to see, and he responded saying it was already being worked on and would be released shortly! And then it was! Great app & I hope it continues to be great :).

I was just looking for audio lessons but am glad that you’ve included the Cantonese characters. Audio slow/ normal speed options - nice. Also like being able to select a character/ phrase for in depth definition.
Does it work offline? When traveling, for example.

### ***** "Perfect language learning app!"
It’s almost impossible to find a variety of resources for learning Southern Vietnamese. This helps with memorizing sentence structure and vocabulary, which is what I needed. Only thing is sometimes it’s hard to see the tone marks so you get marked wrong and “đi” shows up as “?“ in reviews. But otherwise, most intuitive language learning app for me so far.

### ***** "This is a great app, love the option for Southern Vietnamese"
I am learning the southern accent for Vietnamese and having this app is so amazing. I really enjoy the fact that it only offers A1 content, as I think it is an AMAZING way to not get overwhelmed by extra content. Whether or not the creator has plans to add additional levels in the future is unbeknownst to me, but I think just having beginner level content is really a great way to start this app. and it’s subscription services aren’t expensive at all.

with the lack of content available for southern vietnamese, this is truly a godsend in my eyes. however, it isn’t perfect. there are some cons to note:

- the UX/UI is pretty… boring. it’s just a black screen with mainly white text. it doesn’t do a lot to grab the users attention, other than serving it’s intended purpose. this isn’t necessarily a con, but it is nice to have aesthetically pleasing content to learn with.

- The vocab system is a little boring too. it has 4 options currently; ‘quick review,’ ‘flash cards,’ ‘multiple choice,’ and ‘matching pairs.’ they do what you expect, but i feel like this app could really benefit from an SRS system, even a basic one really changes the learning curve.

- there isn’t really any challenge to the lessons. I think the content it introduces is absolutely superb, but when each lesson takes less than 5 minutes… it feels too easy.

- the vocabulary trainer for each lesson is extremely repetitive. it’s all multiple choice. the sentence correction section also is essentially multiple choice, as you just click on the words in order. i think this section could benefit from an actual input method, like having to type out the sentence you hear. maybe limiting the amount of times you can listen to the phrase could also add a good challenge. the tone related questions are a little unnecessary, it’s just another form of multiple choice for words we were quizzed on several times before with the other quiz types. 

- besides sentence blocking, i don’t feel like there’s any actual “teaching” happening. while, yes, i am learning new vocabulary, i’m not really being taught the grammar introduced in each sentence, understanding the nuances between words. maybe a feature that compares words with similar uses would be nice, like when to use nhiều or hơn when meaning “more.” 

while this app does have a some cons, it still is great for what it is, and for what it offers. especially when it comes to vietnamese learners (specifically SVN because the lack of available content is extremely
