3 feet is a little bit absurd. If I am that close, I can lip read just fine. Most hard of hearing people like me (profound hearing loss) need this to be more accurate more so when in meetings where the speaker is on a podium and I am sitting 20 - 30 feet away. I am on a fixed income and can not afford $27.00 a month.
