If you ever need to change your linked bank account, good luck. They’ll happily make the connection if you want to deposit funds, but withdrawals send the user in a frustrating cycle where you can never actually transfer out to the external account you want to use. Want to contact them for support? Talk to the bot and wait 7-10 business days just to begin troubleshooting. A real financial institution would not hold funds hostage like this. Oh and if you ever want to close the account, it’s $100 which they do not disclose when you open the account. This feature is still there, but M1 now implants a fee for accounts with a low balance. While most brokers remain “free” M1 has decided to charge $36 annually. Schwab provides fractional shares, albeit not as user friendly as M1, it should suffice for most aware of asset allocation principles. In addition, 2FA should be a requirement. I had to manually implement this security policy, and occasionally fail to receive any codes. Their decline in operational services paired with their “fee” leaves a bad taste, and I have halted future contributions to this account.
