I use this app for cookbooks but after the recent update there are many pages missing from books with many subchapters and the search function never leads me to the right place. This app was great but now it’s not really usable. Please fix!
Overall good, but two strong suggestions to the developers
First off, I like the app overall. I use it with my Calibre library and it works great. I have on occasion used the server function also but not that often. The interface is good but the tagging and organizing of the books in the app is definitely not intuitive. I have done a lot of Human interface design in my career and am confident that with a little work this part of the interface could be greatly improved.
My biggest issue is the cloud sync. It doesn’t really fit what I would consider a typical use case for the app. The scenario it needs to handle is ‘the user has been reading a book on their iPad. They head out of the house without the iPad and find they have some time on their hands so they go to their iPHone and pull up the book, but it isn’t synced to their last position because they didn’t consider syncing the book on the iPad the last time they put it down’.
Simple solution is to support auto cloud sync. It could be a user preference, but the book position would be updated whenever an appropriate event occurred - e.g., every 15 minutes, when the iPad is put in sleep mode, when the book is closed and another is open. I’m sure there are other events that would also make sense.
Single Column Landscape
I buy DRM free epub tech books. These books have aside sections in them when they will show a command that you might type in on your computer. I have an iPad Pro — nice big screen with a good stand for landscape orientation. When I read my epub tech books in Apple Books, that text in those asides gets cutoff in landscape mode. Really weird because landscape is wider than portrait, but Apple Books INSISTS on putting 2 columns (or pages if you prefer) when in landscape orientation. I just wanted 1 column in landscape. Not Apple Books, or any of the other 6 or so readers I tried from the App Store would let me decide how many columns I wanted. This one did. It gets 5 stars because it’s the ONLY one. You might not agree with my assessment, but when you are trying to understand something technical, and the last detail is just cutoff, the irritation just compounds each time it happens. My search is over, and I can read in peace. Thank you.
Great app.
Love this app. I finally found an ebook reader and server that has cloud syncing options. Great reading options, and has allowed me to put my icalibre catalog on my iPad and sync for my iPhone for reading.
No CBZ support
Can’t read CBZ. A bit complicate app, but the one that was the closest to my need.
No ICloud or sync support!
This app doesn’t allow you to synchronize books or PDFs from iCloud which made it really inconvenient for me to use.
Excellent
This version seems again to do everything an epub reader ought to do.
Translate do not work anymore
Recent app updates stoped passing through the word selection to a Google Translate in a pop up.
You have to type the selection manually in a popup
Horrible.
More expensive than other readers and it does not work. Tried downloading books from Project Gutenberg and only one out of three would open. Tried getting books from Dropbox and it would not import any. It would start to import and then would fail. I tried it on about 20 different books that all work on other readers like Kybook and Marvin. I had high hopes for this app but it was a complete waste of money.
Parfait pour mes besoins
Excellente application pour lire et annoter des epub ou des pdf. De plus, l'application permet d'ajouter des livres simplement (sur le même réseau wifi avec un ordinateur).
