Confusing app but very nice anyway

Celia Laurent on

This app was recommended via Reddit and I have to say it seems to have pretty much everything I was looking for and more! I do wish some of the menus were a little more intuitive though, for example when you click and hold a book it brings up a menu where you can add tags etc but I was fully expecting you could add the book to a group (sometimes referred to as a set) from this menu. It took me a long while to find how to do this (because looking in help would be too easy) and when I eventually found the option I forgot straight away where it was and had to hunt all over again. Also I couldn’t at first work out how to add one of my own ebooks. Eventually I realised I had to move it to the maple folder within the ios local files then just clicking on it automatically opens it in the app. However I have nearly 2,000 books and this will take me hours and I will easily get lost which ones I have opened and which ones I haven’t. So I don’t know if I have missed the import option somewhere, but this feature would be very handy to say the least.

Good first impression

DutchDon on

When searching a reader-app for epubs and pdf’s that’s pleasing to the eye when reading, that has much better organization options than Apple’s Books, and that could import all books from my Calibre collection on the laptop, I found MapleRead answers all my needs. Many options are customisable (look of the reading page and fonts; look of the bookshelves; search/translate/marking of words and phrases; etc.), so there’s still much to be discovered after my first day of use. I trust the discoveries will keep me as happy as I am now.

Not a reader

First you have to download a pdf before you can read it.

Confusing UI, some things don’t work

Hans Dekker on

The User Interface is confusing and not intuitive. Strange icons. Could not get connection to local server working.
