Why the large icloud backup size?

I do find you app convenient, however what I don't get is the backup file size. As you might have aware of, Apple's free icloud space is only 5GB, and you app takes about over 500MB... Even all the map files I downloaded only takes up to over 300MB. I don't know if the app backup the map files as well or not, but even if it does (which doesn't makes sense as you need network to use icloud so you might as well download them from the server) some other stuff still takes over 100MB space. I suppose the only things worth backuping are bookmarks, and either way, taking up over 100~500MB doesn't seem reasonable.
