Sanctuaries, like our national parks, protect amazing places, are home to awe-inspiring species and tell the stories of our past. Marine Sanctuary Explorer is your official guide to the protected waters of the Florida Keys, home to the only continental barrier reef in the U.S. The app has been designed to help you make the most of your visit while recreating responsibly, created by people who know the sanctuary: The Office of National Marine Sanctuaries and National Marine Sanctuary Foundation.
At every stage of your visit (before, during, and after), you can use this app and its features to learn more about Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary.
Before you arrive, download the app to discover points of interest throughout the sanctuary, including coral reefs, shipwrecks, lighthouses, and more. Bookmark new spots to explore, create a travel plan, or find a local guide for specialized experiences like sunset cruises, diving, and fishing trips.
During your visit, allow the app to access your location and the interactive map will alert you to nearby points of interest, with push notifications outlining regulations for each marine zone you enter. Browse the library, where you can learn about plants and animals you’ll observe as you discover the wonders of the sanctuary, and access guidelines that explain how to interact with marine wildlife and habitats safely.
When you’re back on land after your visit, there’s so much more in the app to explore. Check out museums, visitor centers, and our Blue Star partners.
