MASA (Mann Assessment of Swallowing Ability) is a scoring tool for the standardized MASA standardized clinical examination of swallowing. This app automatically scores the exam as administered by a clinician. Results include a total score (out of a maximum of 200), a dysphagia severity ranking, an aspiration risk index ranking, and a graphic profile of strengths and weaknesses identified by the examiner.
This MASA app is available as a monthly or yearly subscription. Your subscription entitles you to unlimited access to the MASA scoring tool. The subscription will not automatically renew. Once the subscription period expires, you won't be automatically charged. You will be prompted to renew your subscription the next time you use the app. The home screen will let you know when your subscription will expire. You can choose to renew before your subscription expires.
The MASA app is intended for dysphagia clinicians assessing their patients. Always seek a doctor or trained healthcare professional’s advice when interpreting the results of a MASA clinical examination of swallowing.

I love the convenience but the consecutive item scoring selection screens do not fill the whole screen as each one progresses and by the last item it is cut in half. I am familiar with the assessment so I know what I am looking for in the descriptors, but someone less familiar would need to go back to a paper version to read the levels for that item. Is this an iOS 15 issue? Fix this issue and you get a 5!!
Time saver- however
Great app! my only suggestion, at least for the ipad app - could you list the scoring criteria /task description from the manual on a side column for reference on each scoring item?
Practical time saver
Saves a great deal of time for me, visual report is something my patients have appreciated vs just a number. Love having the manual on hand to help promote consistency. Works well, haven’t encountered any problems
Display flaws
This app could be a time saver if you administer the MASA. However, there are a few flaws I’ve found. 1) As you continue through the pages they become progressively cut off, showing only a portion of the page you’re supposed to be on and part of the prior page. 2) If you decide that you want to back up to a previous page to change a score, the app freezes and the ‘next’ button doesn’t work, meaning you have to start all over from the beginning. I am running this app on an iPhone X. These flaws along with the high subscription cost do not make this app worthwhile at the time I am writing this review. I do hope the developers will fix these issues and also reconsider the cost.
