MasterClass: Online Classes

I’m giving a review about the app and not the content. I did subscribe for the premium plan because I was interested in downloading lessons and watching them offline. I’m mainly off grid and travelling so I rely on a strong mobile data plan when available in cities which is far stable and better than most wifis around. Problem: the app is not designed to let you download anything with your data. Only through WiFi which is an absolute stupid non sense. I am trying sometime with WiFi and so far nothing work. Why on earth you design an app like this ? Tell me a good reason ? It’s something you can bypass by using another phone as hotspot (hence using WiFi over mobile data). So why ? I did subscribe for nothing because I cannot use the app. It’s an old and stupid design and it ruins the whole experience of masterclass —— update —— The support has been able to refund my subscription since there is a 30 days satisfaction guarantee. On that part, I can only admit they were quite efficient. I would subscribe again if they only could allow to download with data.

Bit the bait and sighed up - the ads made it look so professional but it’s all a farce. I’ve spent a good hour trying to log into it on the browser after I signed up on my phone - all it does it takes me to empty pages. Tried to log a fault and it says that my device is not connected to an email and doesn’t give me any more options. Tried to chat with the bot on the website which was absolutely useless and when I started getting frustrated said that it would connect me to a customer service representative only for me to receive an automated email that they will contact me in 24-48 hours. What an absolute joke

App is very glitchy. Often forgets where I’m up to in a series and reverts back to old videos. But also, it’s nearly impossible to intentionally navigate to and re-watch a previous video in the series. It occasionally displays content cut off/zoomed into a corner of a video with no way of zooming out. If I minimise a video, the bar at the bottom can’t be closed and it covers other videos that I would like to click on. The content is great but the app definitely needs work.

You get to learn and watch stories from and about such amazing people. Definitely better than Netflix !

Life changing

The subtitles doesn't always appear. Sometimes I would be watching a lesson, then I leave the app and come back to it, and the subtitles will no longer show up. Sometimes one lesson would have subtitles and another won't.

Ive only started the Chris Voss lesson but I feel like I’m learning a lot of very useful information for my line of work. Would recommend

It’s just a bit silly that you can’t see the list of downloaded classes when your phone is on airplane mode or if you have no internet connection. What’s the point of downloading the classes?! I’ll give the benefit of the doubt and assume it’s a bug. One star for dramatic effect.

MasterClass classes are great. High quality production and content. The app is a nightmare. The appeal in the app is the ability to download the classes and watch/listen when you’re away from an affordable/reliable internet collection. However the time it takes to download each lesson is painfully slow. As in it has taken days for complete classes to make it down. And then when you try to watch them the app freaks out when it can’t make an online connection and doesn’t allow you access to anything that you’ve downloaded. Bordering on useless. Don’t bother.
