I was unable to find the lot with cost basis it recommended selling, so I asked it follow up questions. Eventually, it admitted that since all of the cost basis prices were the same, then brokerage uses average cost, so there was no tax loss to harvest. And while it technically does all that, the execution is wholly underwhelming. Account integration relies on their partners (e.g., Plaid) working well with your financial institution. The insights are entertaining but ultimately shallow, big on wordy responses but with little substance on actionable steps, oftentimes focusing on a few funds rather than the totality of the account. Rationales can be hit or miss, with some referring to old data - I've gotten advice that was assuming the year is still 2024, an absolute no-go. But ultimately the biggest letdown is with the AI models, which use old ChatGPT4 versions and either don't go deep enough or spend upwards of 5 minutes "reasoning". The interaction requires a lot of trial and error to shape the prompts, which becomes exhausting. I want financial advice with AI automation that is largely preemptive and guided. What I got was old ChatGPT with a few prepared prompts that can RAG in my statements. I can probably get more for $200/year by just subscribing to ChatGPT Pro and dumping CSV account statements into the context or, heck, writing a small MCP harness to make them accessible like an AI native tool.
