Microsoft Authenticator

Published by: Microsoft

Description

Use Microsoft Authenticator for easy, secure sign-ins for all your online accounts using multi-factor authentication, passwordless, or password autofill. You also have additional account management options for your Microsoft personal, work or school accounts.
Getting started with multi-factor authentication
Multi factor authentication (MFA)provides a second layer of security. When enabled, during login after entering your password, you’ll be asked for an additional way to prove it’s really you. Either approve the notification sent to the Microsoft Authenticator, or enter the one-time password (OTP) generated by the app. The OTP codes have a 30 second timer counting down. This timer is so you never have to use the same time-based one-time password (TOTP) twice and you don’t have to remember the number. The OTP doesn’t require you to be connected to a network, and it won’t drain your battery. You can add multiple accounts to your app, including non-Microsoft accounts like Facebook, Amazon, Dropbox, Google, LinkedIn, GitHub, and more.
Getting started with passwordless
Use your phone, not your password, to log into your Microsoft account. Just enter your username, then approve the notification sent to your phone. Your fingerprint, face ID, or PIN will provide a second layer of security in this two-step verification process. After you’ve signed in with two factor authentication (2FA), you’ll have access to all your Microsoft products and services, such as Outlook, OneDrive, Office, and more.
Getting started with autofill
Microsoft Authenticator app can also autofill passwords for you. Sign-in on the Passwords tab inside the Authenticator app with your personal Microsoft account to start syncing passwords, including the passwords saved in Microsoft Edge. Make Microsoft Authenticator the default autofill provider and start autofilling passwords on apps and sites you visit on your mobile. Your passwords are protected with multi-factor authentication in the app. You will need to prove yourself with your fingerprint, face ID, or PIN to access and autofill passwords on your mobile. You can also import passwords from Google Chrome and other password managers.
Microsoft personal, work or school accounts
Sometimes your work or school might ask you to install the Microsoft Authenticator when accessing certain organization resources. You will need to register your device to your organization through the app and add your work or school account. Microsoft Authenticator supports cert-based authentication by issuing a certificate on your device. This will let your organization know that the sign-in request is coming from a trusted device and help you seamlessly and securely access additional Microsoft apps and services without needing to log into each.

Microsoft Authenticator Reviews

Fast and Efficient to Use

Lafs7089 on

Australia

So far, adding accounts and using various types of MFAs is very easy. The biometric face recognition makes this fast to use. I appreciate the location information for where requests are coming from (though with rerouting and VPNs it isn’t always the most useful)

Does not work. NO SUPPORT

Glitchy ! on

Australia

I’ve moved over to a new phone and now I cannot login to ANYTHING needing Authenticator because any time it says to go and approve on my Authenticator app: nothing comes up in the app!! The accounts are there but no sign in notifications work! I’ve tried to get help and none is available unless I login - which I can’t do since I can’t use the Authenticator app!!

Please Fix This App

Using this app gives me a headache. There’s always some glitch with the code not appearing or SOMETHING not working. Use something else

Good But…

Doesn’t always work if you have multiple authentication requests at the same time for different microsoft apps

I’m stuck in an endless, hellish loop.

I hate this app. I hate it wholeheartedly. I am currently stuck in an endless loop of trying to sign into things and being told to “enter the two digit code in my Authenticator app” except I open my Authenticator app and there is no where to input it. I try to solve this issue? “Enter the following code”. I click “can’t use Authenticator app”? “Enter the code.” Are you kidding. I’m in hell. This app is genuine torture and I am so miserable. There is no other way for me to get into anything and I hate it, I’m so goddamn mad.

let me into my app!!!

Does not work with one drive

phillbal on

Australia

Every few weeks I have to sign back in to one drive. It says to open auth, but does not provide the 2 digit number. Auth asks for the 2 digit number. Then I ask for another, but it’s out of sync always a step behind and just says “wrong number” over and over. Now I can’t work.

How is it so bad!?!?

Dave Hansenz on

Australia

I’ll start with the obligatory “I’d give it zero stars if I could”. This app is a nightmare if you have to set it up more than once or change devices such as a new phone or recovering a phone from backup. I have lost so many hours of my life stuck in endless loops resetting passwords, resetting recovery codes only to be prompted to do it all again or getting error messages. It’s always funny when it asks you to authorise your login in authenticator, while in authenticator! The iCloud sync needs a personal outlook account to activate but doesn’t work anyway. The only reason I still use this abomination of an app is because work it force it upon us. I suspect because it keeps them in consistent employment.

Bring back Apple Watch authentication

I am always wearing my watch. Let me accept an authentication without having to go and find my phone all the time!

New phone prevents authentication

DR ABCDEFG on

Australia

I have a new phone, with the latest version of the Microsoft Authenticator app however I can’t authenticate my email address. I’m stuck in a constant loop of needing to enter the authentication code while being in the Authenticator app. Please review ASAP, it is preventing me from having any work flow!
