Microsoft Authenticator

Protects your online identity

Published by: Microsoft

Description

Use Microsoft Authenticator for easy, secure sign-ins for all your online accounts using multi-factor authentication, passwordless, or password autofill. You also have additional account management options for your Microsoft personal, work or school accounts.
Getting started with multi-factor authentication
Multi factor authentication (MFA)provides a second layer of security. When enabled, during login after entering your password, you’ll be asked for an additional way to prove it’s really you. Either approve the notification sent to the Microsoft Authenticator, or enter the one-time password (OTP) generated by the app. The OTP codes have a 30 second timer counting down. This timer is so you never have to use the same time-based one-time password (TOTP) twice and you don’t have to remember the number. The OTP doesn’t require you to be connected to a network, and it won’t drain your battery. You can add multiple accounts to your app, including non-Microsoft accounts like Facebook, Amazon, Dropbox, Google, LinkedIn, GitHub, and more.
Getting started with passwordless
Use your phone, not your password, to log into your Microsoft account. Just enter your username, then approve the notification sent to your phone. Your fingerprint, face ID, or PIN will provide a second layer of security in this two-step verification process. After you’ve signed in with two factor authentication (2FA), you’ll have access to all your Microsoft products and services, such as Outlook, OneDrive, Office, and more.
Getting started with autofill
Microsoft Authenticator app can also autofill passwords for you. Sign-in on the Passwords tab inside the Authenticator app with your personal Microsoft account to start syncing passwords, including the passwords saved in Microsoft Edge. Make Microsoft Authenticator the default autofill provider and start autofilling passwords on apps and sites you visit on your mobile. Your passwords are protected with multi-factor authentication in the app. You will need to prove yourself with your fingerprint, face ID, or PIN to access and autofill passwords on your mobile. You can also import passwords from Google Chrome and other password managers.
Microsoft personal, work or school accounts
Sometimes your work or school might ask you to install the Microsoft Authenticator when accessing certain organization resources. You will need to register your device to your organization through the app and add your work or school account. Microsoft Authenticator supports cert-based authentication by issuing a certificate on your device. This will let your organization know that the sign-in request is coming from a trusted device and help you seamlessly and securely access additional Microsoft apps and services without needing to log into each.

Absolutely unusable

This app is complete garbage. I’m required to use it to get into my workday account and literally can’t get it to work at all. Never presents a code, never refreshes, and won’t let me set up any other method of sign in verification without making me do the sign in code. I tried setting up the passkey as a second form of verification and it literally asks me for a code to create the passkey WHILE IM ALREADY IN THE APP! So I can’t get the code (which won’t pop up anyways) without closing out of the passkey page which ends the whole process. There’s literally no way for me to get into myworkday account now because of this absolutely trash app. And yes I have the latest updated version, I’ve checked all the FAQ pages, I’ve done everything and it literally still won’t work.

Buggy and Broken

This Authenticator app barely works anymore. Every time I change my password for my work email (which is required every 6 months), I face the same issue over and over. The app doesn’t recognize my email or password. Then when the code is displayed to authenticate me, it doesn’t allow me to type in the code. When I try a different method of authenticating, it reverts me back to using the app, even though it’s broken to begin with. This app doesn’t work, and there are plenty of better authentication apps out there. This app is constantly crashing and has updates that make it worse every time.

Awful

As cliche as it sounds these days, I would give zero stars if possible. I cannot tell you how much I despise using this app. Especially when I’m stuck in an Authenticator loop. I apparently need to use Authenticator to authenticate my sign in on this dreadful Authenticator app. I should not have to go through this. No help from any admin has helped either. Tells me to go to a site to change sign in methods, just to be redirected to yet another authentication loop. If it was up to me, I would never use this app. Sadly I don’t have much of a choice. So now I’m essentially stuck with the choice of either hopefully never having to utilize my student email and onedrive, OR stay on hold for 4+ hours to potentially receive no help.

Don’t get this app :)

Stupidest thing ever lol. It signed me out of my school account so I need to sign back it, but I cannot sign back in without the app asking me to put in the code that I need FROM THE APP. So I don’t get to put in the code at all and it’s very useless when I try to use other ways of signing in. For example, I can sign in using a verification code but I have to log in to my account to get it which… you guessed it! I HAVE TO GET THE CODE TO LOG IN WHICH I CAN’T EVEN DO IN THE FIRST PLACE. Because of this, I am not able to sign into my school account which I need to do literally ASAP! I can’t sign into the microsoft website, my email, NOTHING. So not only can I not sign into my school account, I can’t even sign into Outlook, the Microsoft website, basically nothing with the account because it keeps asking me to approve the request and use the code which I cannot do whatsoever. I wish I could give this half a star or even zero stars if I could. My best hope is contacting my school’s IT department in hopes they can get rid of this useless two factor authentication so I never have to use this app again :)

Horrible app

This has to be one of the most infuriating apps. I try to add my account onto the app and it asks me for the code given to me by the app?? But I receive no codes. I never set up two-factor in the first place and I’m just straight locked out of all of my Microsoft accounts.

Very Glitchy and Hard to Get It To Work

Sounds Flat on

Probably the most cumbersome and confusing way of authenticating a user. Very frustrating. Forces people to try to use workarounds to get their work done.
