I can reserve one fine, but when I try to unlock it the app hangs on either a white screen or the black screen with the miles logo. Killing and relaunching the app doesn’t help, it stays hung on the miles logo screen. Restarting my entire phone (brand new iPhone 16 Pro) worked once but not the last time this happened. App is updated to the latest version, as is iOS. My biggest complaint isn’t the app failures but rather the total lack of contact options to deal with the problem. Support now just goes to a useless ai bot. So: one star review it is. -- burnblue, 2024-12-30 ### *---- "Horrible experience with Miles" I rented a VW Polo in Berlin last Saturday. Being summer I expected a hot day in Berlin and we decided to book a car and visit the outlet. Everything was fine until we saw the AC in the car was not working and we had our infant in the car with us. I complained to the support after spending €70 for the hottest trip with a car and after 5 days, 5! we got a response saying they provide us with “goodie” ?! -- TheCaptainP, 2024-07-26 ### *---- "Terrible" Works okay for the occasional ride. But once you use them a lot, you see the flaws: - Most cars are in very poor condition inside and out - They have a ton of hidden fees: for example, if you add the extra insurance for €1, but then upgrade your time spent with the car to a day rate, you are automatically charged 5-10 euros for insurance without being notified. - If you get a parking ticket with one of their cars, they charge you 30 euros “processing fee” just to open the letter and scan it - If you add a payment method, you are automatically charged 50 euros top up - if you end your ride after 1 day and 5 minutes, you are charged for 2 days despite not having access to the car anymore. - the unbelievably bad customer service multiplies all of these issues, making you so angry that you hate the entire company and reconsider your choice to not own a car -- Swaggington, 2024-07-24 ### *---- "Refueling/recharging is broken" At least half of my rides in which I need to refuel or recharge, there is a glitch where the process “fails” even though the car is charging or you have already refueled it. No planes, no trains to get out. I am from Norway and when I heard of this car rental app I thought it will not be possible for me to use it. But to my surprise I was able to sign up, make pictures of my drivers license and my passport, find a car and rent it to drive to Stuttgart from where I could reach Frankfurt for my next flight. Miles came on the scene as the cheaper way to get around congested cities. Now it’s the most expensive. Only in the worst situations where nothing is moving will you pay a higher minutely rate using another provider. -- Cookie Markster, 2022-12-03 ### ***-- "Great service with some sketchy km counting" Doesn’t accurately count Kilometers and counts inconsistently. I drive the exact same route several times a week for two years now, picking up a car from the same carshare parking spot and driving it the same route to another regular parking spot. Miles charges between 2-4 km without rhyme or reason. (For the record, this route according to google maps is 2,7km). I have noticed if you turn off the automatic stop while driving (so the car is always on, even at stoplights) it will charge less kilometers. Another way Miles skims a bit of extra money is to sometimes not unlock the car after you unlock it and the rental is running. The only way to get in is to put the car on parking mode and then resume ride, which is an extra 0,29 or so. No one has time to go back and contest all these small amounts, so they add up after awhile. Now, after the last update, I can’t even open the app sometimes, it just hangs on the loading screen for up to 5 minutes (after that I give up) or loads but then doesn’t show cars or log-in info. A bit annoying as I’m an extremely frequent user. I don’t prefer other car share apps but there are others out there that are more reliable, with easier to contact customer service. -- Mandy Levy, 2022-07-07 ### **--- "Bad UX" Found an issue while trying to verify my US phone number, said to contact support. There was no mentioning about rookie fees before I started my first trip yesterday and I was charged 9 euros rookies fee later. This is not fair for the customer. Horrible customer service, ridiculous hidden charges, super untransparent. I got debited twice within the space of two weeks for the same ride. When I called customer support, I was told to write an email. 2 months and 3weeks later and I'm yet to be reimbursed. Just a mail saying "At the moment we are fixing the bug so we can refund the overpayment asap." Called customer care repeatedly and it's still same response, it's not from us, it's from the IT department, we'll get back to you soon. For almost 3 freaking months!!! Ridiculous fees: It starts with a rookie fee of €9 per month which you are not told of when signing up. I got a speeding ticket for €15 and guess how much I have to pay in "processing fees" to Miles €19.5. Absolutely bullocks. Miles prides itself on being the only carsharing app that allows you drive with a new license, just found at Hertz also allows this. Glad to get rid of this stupid app and horrible customer care. It also states very clearly that registration is FREE. For a year now they have been chasing me for. €10 registration fee, and have just hired a collection agency to chase me for €10, now inflated to €30. I’m going to report them to Apple. Nasty business model.
