## Minutiae Description
minutiae: Uncurated, unfollowed, unfiltered.
An art project created by Martin Adolfsson & Daniel J Wilson

Description
minutiae is an anti-social media app that helps participants capture ordinary moments of life -- moments we don’t fully value until they’re gone.

////////////////////////////
HOW IT WORKS
////////////////////////////

1. Once each day, at a random minute, all minutiae participants around the globe receive an alert simultaneously.

2. You have exactly one minute to respond to the alert and open the minutiae app.

3. Capture whatever is in front of you, there and then.

4. Once you’ve documented your moment, you have 60 seconds to explore previous moments. Both your own, and those of one random stranger you are matched with each day.

4. Repeat for 1440 days (once for every minute in 24 hours).

5. The final outcome of this long term collaboration between artist and participant is a digital archive of all of your captured moments, with the option to turn this archive into a physical book.

*NOTE* Notifications happen at the same time for all participants around the globe. This means that there will inevitably be notifications that happen while you are sleeping. To avoid receiving a notification at night you can put your phone on ‘do not disturb’ mode.

////////////////////////////////////////////
THE minutiae MANIFESTO
////////////////////////////////////////////

YOU ARE NOT YOUR TIMELINE
Social media was supposed to keep us in touch with our friends but has instead turned us all into unwitting monkeys filling out the world’s longest consumer survey.
Facebook doesn’t want your money. It wants your time.
minutiae is a response to our current moment: an anonymous anti-social media app that forces its users to document the in-between moments of life.
A collaboration between artist and participant that retrieves forgotten moments and celebrates the ordinary.
minutiae IS NOT A NORMAL APP
minutiae does not provide instant gratification
minutiae is not interested in your data
minutiae will not increase your efficiency
minutiae is not a popularity contest
minutiae is (let’s be honest) not for everyone
minutiae IS YOUR AUTOMATED SELF-PORTRAIT
minutiae is random moments.
minutiae is forgotten memories.
minutiae is life. Real life. Uncurated. Unfiltered. Unfollowed.
minutiae is a marathon, not a sprint.

## Minutiae Reviews in United States

### ***** "wow"
awesome sauce

devs maybe come up with something for people with school or where they can’t use their phones
-- makalooloo, 2025-01-01

### ****- "Pretty sad…"
I was misinformed about the pricing. I saw there was an option for a one time payment which was perfect for me, but then I get the app and it’s not available? This is very disappointing.
-- Sierra.Benton, 2024-12-29

### **--- "Didn’t know it cost"
This is a Great project! I just can’t afford to join.
-- CrimeAuthor, 2024-12-26

### *---- "Regret"
I wish I had not paid for a year
Sounded cool- not so much… refund would be amazing.
-- lalalydia5, 2024-12-25

### ****- "Alerts"
The alert letting you know it’s time for a pic is not loud enough. If you are not right next to your phone during an alert, it can’t be heard. I miss pics if I’m in a different area other than my phone. That’s my only complaint. It’s a fun app otherwise.
-- Mindy Manders, 2024-12-19

### ****- "This app is genius"
I would rate this app higher if it didn’t wake me up between the hours of 1am - 4am every day to take pictures. Half of my pictures are pitch black squares. You guys should fix that.
-- Ro Marsalis, 2024-12-19

### **--- "I"
I really love the concept but it just does not work, it will not send notifications at all
-- LolskhP, 2024-12-19

### ***** "A Little Great Thing"
As an artist and an introverted extrovert I long for the days when I could just see beautiful images on IG and not of my “followers” were strangers. I’m so happy to experience images from people all around the globe for a brief moment in time on a daily basis. Minutiae is sweet. It’s special. So sweet and simple that I haven’t told anyone about the joy that it brings me yet! I’ll work on sharing but it’s not going to be easy. Thank you for reconnecting us to and through photography.
-- PerkyPerkPerkins, 2024-12-14

### ***-- "Pretty cool"
It’s uh….PrettyPretty Pretty….Pretty good!
-- The Whiskey Rampage, 2024-12-12

### ***** "Great long-term photo project"
The Minutiae app offers a unique way to capture daily life through spontaneous photos taken at random times each day. While the concept is exciting and encourages finding beauty in the mundane, the app's usability can be challenging due to notifications based on UTC time and the pressure of capturing a photo within a limited timeframe. Despite these hurdles, the prospect of compiling a four-year visual diary into a large book is a motivating factor, promising a rewarding experience for those committed to the journey.

A few tips based on my experience so far:

1. Enable Notifications: Ensure all notifications, especially sound, are turned on to avoid missing the spontaneous photo alerts. I do get notifications in my Air Pods and on my Apple Watch. You may want to turn off notifications during your regular sleeping hours. You can do that inside the app.

2. Prepare Before Opening the app: Don't open the app until you're ready to take a photo. You have a minute to decide what to photograph before opening the app, and if you subscribe, you get four minutes.

3. Embrace Spontaneity: The goal is to capture what you're doing at the moment of the alert, so try to embrace the randomness and authenticity of the shots.

4. Have Backup Ideas: While the project is about spontaneity, having a few fallback photo ideas can help you capture a variety of shots.

5. Enjoy the Process: Focus on the journey and the unique collection you'll create over four years, rather than just the end result. Many of your shots will be mundane, so just accept that.

6. Reflect on Your Photos: Regularly review your photos to see how your daily life is captured and how it evolves over time.
