Description

MLC Chat lets users chat with open language models locally on ipads and iphones. After a model is downloaded to the app, everything runs locally without server support, and it works without internet connections do not record any information.

Because the models run locally, it only works for the devices with sufficient VRAM depending on the models being used.

MLC Chat is part of open source project MLC LLM, with allows any language model to be deployed natively on a diverse set of hardware backends and native applications. MLC Chat is a runtime that runs different open model architectures on your phone. The app is intended for non-commercial purposes. It allows you to run open-language models downloaded from the internet. Each model can be subject to its respective licenses.

Pretty good.

Can the developer comment on if the testflight version records data or is no data collected on either version?

App works well, but uploading custom models is a problem

The app works well, but the instructions on how to upload other models is unclear, leaving me to only use Mistral and nothing else.

An entertaining and helpful offline tool

Love this proof of concept. The UI could be improved but it’s hard to complain about a free, mind blowing app like this

Does not work on IPhone 15

I really love the app! I tried all the models but all of them kept crashing. Maybe I didn’t set it right? Anyone can help? Thank you!

Crashes on iPhone XS

This app really shouldn't be made available on iPhone XS. The Mistral and Llama models fail to initialize due to insufficient memory, and the RedPajama model will initialize but crash the app every time you try to use it. So it's completely unusable on an XS, and you have to download many GBs of models to discover that.

Doesn’t work

It doesn’t work at all in n my iPhone 13. It just closes app when I hit send.

Please add the ability to edit responses and the system prompt

This app is barebones but the newly added Mistral model is amazing for something running locally on an iPhone. The app is barebones though and it would be nice to be able to edit the system prompt and responses.

Update is broken

Launching the RedPajama model now crashes. The ability to download custom models was removed unexpectedly. App is now completely useless on iPhone 13 mini. This was a fantastic app previously, please unbreak these changes!

Can’t load other models from URL.

The previous version could load models from URL. But in this version, the feature was removed without notifying in release note.

Neat to use a LLM on my phone but…

I was disappointed to see that I could not save a conversation other than copying one response at time. When I put app to background then returned the conversation closed and I got back to main screen. When going to conversation screen I find the app was reset and my earlier data is not present. Still, I’m impressed to have the chance to play with models on my phone.
