Researchers at Monash University have developed the low FODMAP diet and a corresponding app to assist in the management of gastrointestinal symptoms associated with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). The Monash University FODMAP diet works by swapping foods high in fermentable carbohydrates (FODMAPs), with low FODMAP alternatives. Around 75% of people with IBS experience symptom relief on a low FODMAP diet.
The app comes directly from the research team at Monash and includes the following:
- General information about the FODMAP diet and IBS.
- Easy to understand tutorials to guide you through the app and the 3-Step FODMAP diet.
- A Food Guide detailing the FODMAP content for hundreds of foods using a simple 'traffic light system'.
- A list of branded products that have been certified by Monash as low FODMAP.
- A collection of over 70 nutritious, low FODMAP recipes.
- Functions that allow you to create your own shopping list and add notes to individual foods
- A Diary that enables you to record food eaten, IBS symptoms, bowel habits and stress levels. The Diary will also guide you through step 2 of the diet - FODMAP reintroduction.
- The ability to adjust units of measurement (metric or imperial) and activate colour blindness assistance.

Good but needs IT work
The app is very good, full of useful info and recipes that are simple. Ideal for a beginner to the FODMAP diet. However the user experience is not good- I just downloaded today- it was fine at the beginning but then won’t let me go back to main menu. The top bar is layered with two lines of text. I have an up to date iPhone 8 so shouldn’t be a problem from my side. Please get the app IT sorted!!
Loses data entries
Just started using app.. and it has lost all my food diary entries..not what I paid for....
Very good! A few issues but overall pleased.
Bought this for cooking for my family as my wife follows this diet. Find the app very handy. Large listings of foods. I’ve not had an issue finding one yet. The breakdown of possibly tolerable foods by their weights is fantastic. My wife has been able to add a few foods once we knew the tolerable amount. A few complaints about the App: I did find some errors. Ex: It lists brown sugar as ‘OK’ but brown sugar contains molasses, which is NOT ok. I also found it frustrating that I couldn’t report this error. Still, worth the money if you cook for a FODMAPer.
Very disappointing
Very bad range of foods available, very bad app, very boring recipes. I am really disappointed with this app and would not recommend it to anyone
Not great
Not worth €8.99 at all. Not enough range of products or foods.
Fodmap
Very Disappointed with the uk version of the food guide extremely limited. Doesn't even mention avocados which are a no-go food same as peaches because they have stones. Plus much more foods.
Would not recommend to uk based customers. Not worth €8.99.
Cautious
A fairly tasty price for an app and the recipe section keeps crashing. For the price I expected more. Another purchase tainted by regret!
