Description

Researchers at Monash University have developed the low FODMAP diet and a corresponding app to assist in the management of gastrointestinal symptoms associated with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). The Monash University FODMAP diet works by swapping foods high in fermentable carbohydrates (FODMAPs), with low FODMAP alternatives. Around 75% of people with IBS experience symptom relief on a low FODMAP diet.
The app comes directly from the research team at Monash and includes the following:
- General information about the FODMAP diet and IBS.
- Easy to understand tutorials to guide you through the app and the 3-Step FODMAP diet.
- A Food Guide detailing the FODMAP content for hundreds of foods using a simple 'traffic light system'.
- A list of branded products that have been certified by Monash as low FODMAP.
- A collection of over 70 nutritious, low FODMAP recipes.
- Functions that allow you to create your own shopping list and add notes to individual foods
- A Diary that enables you to record food eaten, IBS symptoms, bowel habits and stress levels. The Diary will also guide you through step 2 of the diet - FODMAP reintroduction.
- The ability to adjust units of measurement (metric or imperial) and activate colour blindness assistance.

The Authority

The largest collection of foods' FODMAP ratings available. Simple and easy to use. Also the staff at Monash University are very accessible and easy to talk to if you have any questions about food ingredients and ratings. The app has lots of additional features like online courses, etc., that I have not even explored.

Great app

Honest Nomad on

Most accurate FODMAP out there and explains some symptoms I was having when following other apps. It is nice that the app is getting better all the time. Only suggestion is to keep adding US products so I can recommend it to more paying customers in the US!

Contradictory

elkhell on

I paid for this app because I figured that information coming from the source would be the most accurate. The app is very contradictory of what is low fodmap and what is not. In the pamphlets there are fruits and veggies they are safe to eat and in the food guides they say that they aren't. Overall I think it is useful but they need to cross check their information

A Godsend!!!

This is a great app. I now know why I had all sorts of stomach pains and issues when I was a child. My doctor told me about FODMAP diet after another bout of stomach issues. I took a little while to research some apps, and this one seems to be the best. Easy to use and I really am grateful for all of research and data.

Not worth the price

Sandforth on

There is nothing on this app that isn’t readily available online for free already. I was hoping the price would grant me access to a ton of recipes , but 10 breakfasts , 22 mains are slim pickings.

Has changed my life!!!

Marilyn’s “office” on

I have my life back. No longer spending my life in “my office” (aka bathroom). I love how they are always updating, testing and adding foods. The original FODMAP diet my Doctor gave me was so limiting. I can now have things I couldn’t before in limited quantities. Get it! Best money I’ve spent in years!

Useless if You Live in the U.S.

I spent the $8 on this app, because it comes highly recommended by dieticians and gastroenterologists for patients with IBS, who need some help following the fodmap diet, which can be tricky, especially for beginners. This app is a total waste of time and money. I thought I could look up common U.S. food items, and I found stuff that I’ve never even heard of before. With some of the food items, you can’t change the serving size to see how the amounts of the different fodmaps change. It also doesn’t have a barcode scanner, so that you can go to the store and scan the barcodes of foods you may want to eat, and check out the fodmaps in them, and create a library of your foods and do meal planning. This app needs way more work before it’s worth anyone’s time or money.

Hate this app

Almost everything about this app is frustrating. Waste of money. Wish they had a trial but instead I threw $8 in the trash.

If you’re color blind - change the accessibility settings

Bryan-water-guy on

All the scores use red and green traffic lights as icons. I couldn’t tell the difference until I changed the settings. Once I did I could access this amazingly thorough library. Very pleased.

Search is Mediocre/Incomplete

Heres the problem with this app, you type in “risotto” and there are two results, both for meals provided by food delivery services, one in the UK and one in Aus (despite me selecting US as my region). Type in “arborio” and you will find what you need. Similarly, if you type in “almond” raw almonds are fourth on the list, underneath almond meal, almond milk, and almond butter and above specific montash certified products. It also seems like a lot of foods are missing, especially common ingredients in packaged foods. Still probably the best app out there, and good when paired with the fig app (if the fig app lights up a product red, check this app for quantities as it may be in a small enough quantity to be ok) Super annoying that you need to pay for two apps to reasonably see what you can and can’t eat, but it has done wonders for my ibs.
