## Moneydance Description
Moneydance helps you take your finances mobile by making account balance updates and transaction entry portable.  Moneydance is designed to enable quick and painless entry of receipts and transactions while you are out and about, with immediate, end-to-end encrypted syncing (via Dropbox or iCloud) to Moneydance on your Mac or PC.

The desktop version of Moneydance is required to use this app, which can be downloaded for Mac, Windows, or Linux from moneydance.com

Moneydance uses strong AES encryption in addition to Dropbox and iCloud's built-in security to ensure your finances are heavily protected while syncing.

### ***** "A great substitute for Quicken"
I’ve been using quick for my home finances for the past 30 years, and when I upgraded to Windows 11, the quicken program wouldn’t load, and I didn’t wanna have to pay monthly fees, Moneydance loaded my old Quicken files, and with the mobile interface makes entering receipts so easy, and the mobile entries sink with my PC’s Moneydance program!  Love it!

### **--- "Not mature product"
I’m evaluating moneydance on a 2015 Mac laptop. I’m looking for a budget and finance management application that 1) pulls data from financial sites, 2)  saves said data on a storage platform I can control (local disk, iCloud, Dropbox work, prefer a user configurable sftp server url or object storage api), 3) does not provide my data to any companies (no cloud saas platform please), is low cost or justifiable, 4) has automated functionality for tying transaction records from one synced account with another without requiring me to share my data with a hosted AI, and 5) generally gives me an overview of everything without breaking. 

I’ve never used quicken. Mint used to break on me all the time. I haven’t used a check register in 20 years. I need support for 30 bank accounts and 20 credit cards, maybe investment (not necessary), a fast way to mark transactions to a specific budget automatically and/or learned.  

Moneydance on laptop seems to hit some of the basics. Moneydance on iPhone appears to be lacking 90% of the basics and it’s not a brand new thing. At their current rate of development I’d say it might be usable by 2030.

### ****- "For the love of all that is holy"
Get rid of the stupid spell check on the merchant name field. I know how to spell Lowe’s, Bario Queen and other non-standard merchant names. Flipping the merchant name to something else based on spellcheck just before I was to click the merchant name from previous usages has got to be the most aggravating part of this software.

### ****- "Extremely Limited Capabilities"
I download the app yesterday. Installing the app was easy and I had no problems linking it using Dropbox to my PC. But on the downside: It allows me to enter, edit and delete transactions, but not much more. It appears that there are no tools or preferences. The ability to reconcile accounts would be extremely helpful. I see that there supposedly is an ability to require a passphrase or biometrics to open the app, but I haven’t yet found how to do that. Overall it just seems like a very simple app that could stand some enhancements.

Update: Upped my rating to 4 stars. I finally found the settings and figured out how to enable biometrics.

Given that I rely heavily on tags for categorizing purchases, the fact that the mobile version neither displays the ones entered in the desktop version nor allows a user to enter them makes the app fairly useless for me.

Great app for making entries on the go or when you don’t have access to a computer. The only thing that would make this app better would be to include some of the things from the summary page on the desktop like net worth or debt totals.

Essentially useless for all but the simplest transactions. It crashes when I delete a split, syncs at random (sometimes waiting a minute a two after the app opens), and you can’t attach receipts.

### ***** "If you liked Quicken"
This is as if not better than the newer versions of quicken for personal and business and you don’t have to subscribe to an online plan. This app integrates with my other devices so like now I’m using their mobile app and it will update on my computer too.  Easy to use, easy to view very straight forward. I can generate reports based off my register it’s has more stuff than I use and I use a lot of. Like the scheduling you can link to its credit account and then post to your checking account too. It’s always accurate and dependable.  I do wish it wasn’t so sensitive or fast I can’t see where to adjust it.

I used Quicken for years and barely scratched the surface. Plus I felt I was paying a subs for lots of things I did not use. Moneydance is more focused and much easier to develop budgets. Or perhaps I just figured it out. Either way no subscriptions!
