My main synth
Despite having almost all the synth apps available on the AppStore, I just can’t help but keep coming back to this one anytime I’m starting an AUM project. Best sounds to my ear - easy and light.
mood is not free (it costs 11.99), however it doesn't contain in-app purchases or subscriptions.
✅ The mood app appears to be high-quality and legitimate. Users are very satisfied.

Good sounding synth with some weird UI design decisions. No Undo/Redo, no Favorites in presets, unnecessary pop-up menu when you load preset. Weird layout in AU version where 80% is keyboard but when you go to ARP editing mode there is no keyboard at all. 99% of presets are quite bad and I can get why, not fun workflow obviously.
I will say that it sounds great, but there are lots of apps that sound great. I can’t get over not being able to hide the keyboard in AUV3 mode. I don’t use an on screen keyboard. Ever. I don’t mind the tabs for different parameters, but I can’t get over the keyboard always cluttering up the screen. It works great with my EWI and I wanted to love it, but I keep bouncing off of it.
Definitely part of my top 10 synths. Very versatile and I love the actual sounds it can produce. Some synths can make good sounds, but everything in between those sounds feels useless. I mean that's probably subjective, because others may find great use out of it through some processing. But I like melodic sounds that I can play with my keyboard and Mood gives me that. Basically it's a synth I go to if I want to make sounds to use in my tracks, as opposed to just experimenting endlessly to maybe get a couple of useful sounds. For sure it's a must have. Some other nice things about it are I like how you can select keyboard range, easily expanding it or moving left/right (similar to Cubasis), haven't seen this in many synths. Preset saving is good, lets you create folders, which is a must for me. Otherwise if you have to put all your sounds into a single "User" folder, that's just not practical. Oh and LFO's... others probably already wrote about this, but yeah, you can modulate EVERYTHING with individual LFO's per knob. And LFO's implementation is the best ever. The way you can select the range, to just modulate the knob between specific positions. And once you're done, you can even move the knob to a different position and it'll keep the range but will modulate around that position now. This and ApeMatrix are my favs from this dev.
Sweet and warm !
Sonically deep yet very straightforward to program. Having an LFO available for every single parameter will spoil you! Well, it has spoiled me.:)
I don't understand why the interface was screwed in AU mode? Because of this I now use it... Never! I'd give it 5/5 if that AU interface was fixed.
Love this app - one of my go-to synths on iOS!
This is such a lovely synth, and is a joy to use in it’s standalone version. It is AUv3 compatible, but the interface switches into tabbed folder with lots of wasted space. It’s unfortunate as it makes the instrument unpleasant ANS difficult to use in an AUv3 environment.
No zipper noise, smooth filters, musical sounding FM. Low CPU, fantastic synth.
