Developed by nature specialists, Spiny Software, this app will help you identify mushrooms, toadstools and other fungi quickly and easily. Have fun with fungi!
The app covers a wide range of fungi, from mushrooms and toadstools to bracket fungi, puffballs, and other strange wild fungi, with a range of photos and detailed information on appearance, habitat, edibility and more. It is British-made and is the only mushroom app using recognised English names (as specified by the British Mycological Society).
A ‘Fungus Finder’ is included to identify mystery fungi. This feature has been carefully designed to require no specialist knowledge so even if you are a complete beginner, you will be able to put a name to your discovery.
Icons indicate whether a mushroom is edible or poisonous, or to be avoided because it is unpleasant, but remember to check with an expert before eating any wild fungus.
Once identified, you can mark the fungus as seen, make notes about it, add your own photos, and automatically check the current date, time, latitude, longitude and Grid Reference.
The app includes iCloud syncing, so that if you have more than one device (iPhone, iPod or iPad) your sightings will automatically synchronise.

Add your own image!
So where can I add my own image. Other plant tree finder apps allow an image to be added without any problem. I have gone over this app and can’t find a simple concept - add image and let’s find the name. Forget using this app it’s worthless.
Mixed results
I bought this app after finding 2 mushrooms in the garden which my books were not able to identify absolutely.
The first could not be found in this app either which was disappointing.
The second is almost certainly yellow stainer and the detailed description in this app was very helpful, although the Fungus Finder function did not identify it from my description. I had to go through the database.
Pocket ID guide
Excellent app for fungus spotting whilst walking the dog! Recommend highly.
Missing species
This would be a great programme, but there are too many common species missing and no facility to add them.
Spiny apps are great
I have 5 Spiny apps and they all use the same interface which is very easy to use. Species can be identified and sightings logged with your own pictures. I especially like the ability to compare pictures of different species to help identify what you are looking at. It would be even better though, if it were possible to flick through all the pictures available and not just the ones selected. E.g. you may wish to compare the top of a butterfly or mushroom, the underneath and then the distribution.
Highly recommended!
Easy to use and nicely put together. There are many mushrooms around at the moment and this app has been very useful in identifying them.
Brilliant
Another essential field guide from ispiny! I have their bird apps already. This new one is up to the same high standards. I was able to identify the mushrooms in my garden as well
