I wish to commend MTN for its effort in providing multilingual customer service to ensure accessibility and inclusivity for its customers. Offering options in Twi, Ewe, Hausa, and Ga demonstrates the company’s recognition of Ghana’s linguistic diversity and its commitment to customer satisfaction. However, I would like to humbly raise a concern. While the current language options cover some major southern Ghanaian languages, there is no representation for any northern Ghanaian language. This is surprising, especially considering that Dagbani is statistically the second most widely spoken Ghanaian language. From all indications, literacy levels in English tend to be lower in northern Ghana compared to the south, which makes the absence of a northern language option even more concerning. This raises a genuine question: Is MTN assuming that all Northern Ghanaians are comfortable with English, or has this been an oversight in designing the customer service system? The omission could unintentionally create the impression of ethnic bias, even if that was never the intent. In light of the reasons MTN itself upholds for offering multilingual support; accessibility, inclusivity, and customer satisfaction, I respectfully urge your team to consider the inclusion of Dagbani, and possibly other northern languages, in the customer service menu. This would not only make MTN’s service more inclusive but also strengthen your reputation as a truly national brand that values all its customers equally, regardless of region.
