Die Basler Verkehrs-Betriebe betreiben als grösster Partner im Tarifverbund Nordwestschweiz in Basel-Stadt und Umgebung mehr als 180 Kilometer Tram- und Buslinien. Auf 9 Tram- und 13 Buslinien sind täglich 83 Tramkompositionen und 82 Busse im Einsatz. Seit dem Jahr 2006 wird die BVB als öffentlich-rechtliche Anstalt geführt und befindet sich zu 100 Prozent im Besitz des Kantons Basel-Stadt. 1241 BVB-Mitarbeitende sorgen 365 Tage im Jahr für einen reibungslosen Betrieb. Die BVB befördert jährlich über 132 Millionen Fahrgäste und erzielte im Jahr 2016 einen Jahresgewinn von 313'396 Franken. (Zahlen: Stand 31.12.2016)
