## NanoStudio 2 Description
NanoStudio 2 is a powerful music production environment for synthesis, sampling, arranging, editing and mixing. It’s the successor to the original NanoStudio, an app held in high regard by musicians for many years for its usability, quality and productivity.  

NanoStudio 2 builds upon the same design principles as its predecessor and introduces a huge range of extra features.  An all-new audio engine delivers truly professional sound quality, highly optimized to handle complex projects with large numbers of instruments and effects.

NanoStudio 2 hosts external Audio Unit (AUv3) instruments and audio/MIDI effects.  A library of all your AU instruments and presets is maintained so they’re tagged, searchable and just as accessible as NanoStudio’s own internal instruments.

Obsidian is NanoStudio’s built-in synth.  It has 3 oscillators with 32 note polyphony and 7 different synthesis methods including analogue, wavetable, FM, multi-saw and phase distortion.  It also supports samples and multisamples which may be split by note or velocity. Obsidian has 18 different filter types, including resonant analogue, super clean digital, formant, comb and waveshaping. Nearly every parameter can be modulated via the synth’s 5 envelopes, 5 LFOs and 10 configurable macro controllers, and modulation connections can be assigned with just a few taps.  300 factory patches are supplied with macros set up and ready to go.  It’s easy to create your own patches and there are many more professionally produced patches available as IAP.

Slate is NanoStudio’s second built-in instrument, a sample/synthesis-based performance pad which makes it easy to tap out drum beats.  Slate comes with 500 quality factory samples ranging from multisampled acoustic drums with natural variations through to cutting-edge electronic percussion and effects. 50 factory kits are include, and it’s easy to construct your own drum kits using the factory samples or your own. Slate can also be used with samples of just about anything: vocals, guitar riffs, synth pads – you name it.

There are powerful editors for song arrangement, MIDI, automation and samples.  All share a consistent user interface so you’ll be up to speed with them and making music in no time.

A fully-featured sequencer supports tempo and time signature tracks (including tempo ramps) and Ableton Link.

Everything’s brought together by a mixer with unlimited tracks, track grouping and audio/MIDI sends.  Tracks may have an unlimited number of insert effects with 11 built-in effects to choose from including reverb, sidechain compressor/expander, EQ with spectrum analysis, look-ahead limiter, delay, exciter, chorus, flanger and phaser.  You can add AU audio/MIDI effects to the chain and use them just like an internal effect.

There are many mixdown options available with quality settings up to 32 bit/96kHz and support for file formats including wav, aiff, ogg and M4A.  You can mixdown track stems in a single operation or select just a region of the song - great for resampling.

NanoStudio supports Audiobus and has many options for file sharing via the iOS Files app, Dropbox, AudioShare, iTunes File Sharing, AirDrop, email, WebDAV and importing music from your iTunes library.

contact dev facility gone, user Forum gone, apparently this will soon be permanently removed & also no thanks to iOS unloading apps after a certain amount of time means I may not be able to use download this anymore after having paid money for it, what a waste, so much for all that, thanks for nothing .. 🙄 of course this attitude will be seen as blasphemous by the devs fawning sycophants but whatever ..  maybe i need to grab some vintage hardware & use something that stays around lol

Been using NanoStudio since it was first introduced to the world. One of my fav goto midi sequences. Audio would be nice, but don’t let the lack of audio tracks (you can record audio into the sampler) put you off purchasing this amazing software, as its easy to produce good results time after time. Kudos to the developer for his hard work in creating a winner…

Got most of what’s needed (flexible synth, drum machine, sampling, sequencer, effects, track mixer, mixdown) in a great interface, to make music all in one app, without recourse to those “ios glue sniff” spaghetti junction apps that bamboozle and this auv3 thing that seems to cause more problems than it solves..i mean the app has auv3 but haven’t had to use it much apart from the odd effect.. (..Previous positive review deleted, no idea why..maybe I wasn’t screaming about “audio track input” enough? Doesn’t mean I won’t appreciate it when it comes I’m just going by the fact that I can finish stuff in this I can’t elsewhere & be pleased enough with results..) App support seems fraught, though. I didn’t get replies via “contact us”, meaning I had to enquire on the site forum, but any enquiries/bug reports are, mostly, picked up by a team of mods on the forum, who themselves admit they don’t always know what the dev is up to, (“but that’s ok, really!”) who generally maintains radio silence on a number of key issues, such as ios compatibility leading to global auv3 bugs (supposedly the fault of apple but who knows) and promised upcoming features in progress... (apparently it is a small dev team but IMHO app support shouldn’t just rely on people who didn’t CODE the app. The mods claim they “report to the dev” but that smacks of some kind of hierarchy more befitting a large monolithic corporation, not an independent developer..& a big deal is made about how much the developer is the latter. Of further concern: fanatical regulars in the forum screaming about how aforesaid promised features were not promised & that they should be DROPPED & that anyone who disagrees is basically some kind of ((not allowed to use the word)), you get the picture…

This is by far the best DAW on iOS. There I’ve said it. Why? Because it’s really easy to use, low on cpu and has the best touchscreen friendly gui out there. Everything oozes quality, the Obsidian synth is a real power house. The mixer looks amazing, the piano roll is easy to use, the save /project features are perfect. I own a new MPC and if this was the software I would not not want for anymore. It just needs Audio tracks to complete. This is the only feature that stops me from binning all my other gear and moving to iPad. I need to freeze those tracks or bounce to audio to free up cpu on larger projects. The compromise would be turn slate into an mpc/beatmaker style pad sampler. Allowing us to record a midi track into an audio sample or loop.

I’ve used Reaper on the Mac and Windows for years. I’ve got Logic on my Mac. I’ve got live 11 on my Mac too. Nanostudio 2 is as good as any of them taking into account the limitations of IOS. In many ways it’s better than the above because it’s so well designed and eminently suited to iOS.  So if you want a superbly designed, hardly-ever-crashes app, get this. Sure no audio, but this can be got around by using Slate. As I use midi almost 100% it isn’t a concern for me. Has midi import/export etc. Audio export, etc.

So if you’re like me, mainly midi don’t hesitate… get it.

If this app was a standalone device it would cost hundreds. I’m absolutely blown away by the inuitive workflow and quality of sound. This hands down beats any of the standalone grooveboxes I have tried, including the OP-1. It also means I’m not tied to my pc for music creation. Whatsmore, I was about to sell my iPad to fund an OP-Z. Not anymore! Utterly brilliant. Massive thank you to the whole team for making this.

Firstly I love nanostudio but you the developer sold this app at first with audio tracks coming.Now I’m sure you have had enough of being asked but what is happening really?Do you not intend to add audio tracks anymore ?Now I use slate to add audio tracks ie guitar but it’s so hard to edit the guitar,why can’t you sample nanostudio studio tracks into slate ie itself like you could on the original nanostudio?why can’t you automate external FX?why can’t you repeat the slate sample triggering like the old nanostudio.I champion this app and do all my music with nanostudio which amazes people but come on now it’s about time we know once and for all I’ve been using this and not cubasis but it might be time for me to switch DAWs to make my life easier but don’t really want to I just wanna use this one.only 3 stars because of the wait is audio tracks going to come or not ?
