Sometimes the speech to translation text doesn’t work if I don’t add usted even when not necessary. I love the pretend conversations and wish there were more of those. Almost like section of only conversations like they have a flash card section. -- Annaknjuotddghjf, 2025-01-04 ### ***** "Best app I've tried, if you like spoken language practice, this is even better" Some background: I've taken Spanish in school and college, but my receptive language and written comprehension far outweighs my expressive language. I've done some Duolingo, Pimsleur, Say Something In, and Language Transfer. The app is closest to Pimsleur, or other speech/listening spaced repetition audio you may have tried. However, it includes flash cards and targeted practice so you don't have to repeat sections as often if you're not confident. It's also nice that you can see the words on the screen, in case the speaker has an accent you're less familiar with. It also saves your progress so you don't have to question, “where was I last”? for that time you got the stomach bug and couldn't find the motivation for a few days. Duolingo might be the most addicting, but Natulang does have the option to set a reminder to study. -- Lady Cramps, 2025-01-01 ### ***** "Loving it - Keep up the good work!" I learned Spanish through class work and textbooks but never learned how to speak well. This app is helpful in helping me connect all the vocab that I know into coherent, natural sounding sentences. The sentences just flow out of me instead of me having to think and scramble for words. Some half-baked ideas and hopes: - it seems like all sentences and phrases and lessons are coded into the app like a script. To improve speaking skills, focus on talking rather than just studying vocabulary and grammar in silence. Highly recommend it. -- Old "G", 2024-11-29 ### ***** "Practice what you want to do" I just started using this app about 2 weeks ago and I’m very happy with the way it lets me practice speaking Spanish. It essentially gives you an active conversation script on the fly and you practice speaking both sides of the conversation. I’m currently on lesson 15 and feel my progress is steady. In the beginning I was stumbling slowly through phrases, but what I noticed lately is that my brain recalls the phrases I want to say without me “thinking” how to say them and I’m saying them at a natural pace. I think if you want to replicate having conversations with real people, this app will help immensely. It’s nice to be able to actually see the text of the language as you are learning to speak it, which is something the Thomas method lacks. I also appreciate the design of this app - no gamification here. If you really focus and take your time with each lesson, you’ll start to speak French without having to think about it. After a while, without the gamification of most apps, you’ll find your learning moves at a very fast clip. It’s very satisfying. It uncovers gaps in my Spanish and lets me practice in a realistic, conversational way. There are a lot of little words here and there that through the app I realized I wasn't using them quite right or was even avoiding using them - even extremely simple ones like “this” and “that,” for example. Kind of basic for fluent speaking! The other area I really love it for is making me do more complicated verb conjugations, like subjunctive and conditional, another thing I sometimes avoid and do workarounds for. It clears up a lot of confusion and lets you absorb the information. This app has been very challenging in a very helpful way. I’m only a few days in and I can already see progress, which is exciting! The only thing I’d change is when I get something wrong, the app will say it correctly but then move on to the next one. It would be more helpful if I got to repeat the correct phrase. Also, every time I get something right, it should give some sort of - good, excellent, correct. Could not imagine a more perfect app. I have been studying Spanish for a few years and am fairly advanced on paper but my speaking has really lagged. I’ve done the conversation groups and I work with a tutor but it can be hard to really log the hours speaking and generating sentences. This app makes it so easy and fun, and I am so impressed with how it continues to drill me on sentences I’m not getting quite right. Exactly what I had been hoping AI would make possible! The stories are also interesting. My issues with this app is in regards to the lack of toggles and flexibility. There is little we can personalize to our needs. It says that it will only take 15 minutes however I have spent 30 minutes doing the lesson because when it’s finished with the original lesson, it decides to do a recap lesson that takes just as long. There should be an option to skip the recap. I also don’t like when you skip the question because you don’t know what it is instead of giving you the answer it makes you guess words that you are so simple and you already know instead of just giving the answer so you can move on. With more complex sentences this AI becomes deaf. it also cannot tolerate the background noise of my air conditioner. This does not work with AirPods. You can’t really multitask which is fine but the lessons don’t need to be so long. I found myself getting so frustrated with this AI not listening or hearing the sentences that I’m saying correctly. I’ve recommended this app to friends. I pay for the subscription. But I think I’m going to stop soon because this is becoming more of a chore and less fun the more chapters I do. Since I’ve completed so many chapters (151) there’s just so much to recap and it’s endless and frustrating. There should probably be a timer to show the amount of time left in a lesson counting it down. You also should be able to save your progress so that you can leave the app without having to start all over again.
