I now lost relief shading when I zoom out !!

I used to rely upon this app as a backup to my main system.  Now it requires you to log in to use it…which you usually can’t do whilst out at sea. Do not use this app, it may get you killed.

App crashes when trying to enter boat details. I would understand if I was using a scratty old phone, but I have an iPhone 13 Pro Max. Having used the app for weeks at a time in the Eastern Med, I would like it if the route planning gave compass bearings for routes, but other than that it’s pretty good. Actually, that’s unfair: when you hire a boat with a broken windex and a dead instrument binnacle, it’s a lifesaver. I just wish they’d fix the bugs.

Navionics used to be very good. Had it on 2devices   
Now unable to log in despite excellent home internet.
Tried resetting password etc. You say cannot log in “at present”. Great. 
And what about when on passage ? As others have pointed out no internet …

Updates by update Garmin/Navionics are locking out previously existing features in an effort to force their user base to purchase very expensive subscriptions when they’ve already purchased very expensive charts. Now they are purposely overlaying upgrade ads during navigation which they know is seriously irritating. They are taking it too far and this commercial business model is very short sighted. Companies who get greedy and try to screw customers for EVERY last penny will loose out to the newer developers who have more respect for their customers. I certainly don’t expect navigation to be free but this is getting ridiculous. Time to switch…

Classic that the developers are not listening to users feedback. We all know what happens when developers don’t listen. This app used to be good, but the developer has overcomplicated it and in such a way that certain access or requirements made.

### *---- "Used to be "just right" for planning not any more."
The link with desktop was fabulous and allowed DINGHY sailors to plan.   (Wet hands dont work on touch screens).    Some of us use basic hardware plotters too but they dont work so well in a tent and tend not to sync with other devices.   If you are going to remove this feature then step up with affordable robust hardware plotter (with buttons) that will sync with your phone app.    in the search for alternative...I have unintentionally installed Savvy Navvy...cost me £89.00.   I think thats me captured now...for 2025 and beyond!

I now lost the charts that I paid for and have to constantly pay for the subscription, which almost doubled now. To add to the disappointment there is no longer support for web app. I previously had full access to my account and ability to pre plan on a pc. Now this redirects to Garmin. 
All in all the greed of Garmin killed arguably the best product on the market. 
Product manager — 1) restore charts re-download that we paid for. 2) fix pc access. 
Until then it is search for alternatives sadly!

Long term customer, great app but recent updates mean that those not on the subscription service can no longer download maps not previously downloaded. I would recommend you stay clear, most likely they will take your money then change the rules!!

### **--- "Great map quality, 2 device limit 🤯 and not much improvement for years."
Have been using navionics both on my Raymarine Chartplotter and also on my phone.

Recently I noticed they introduced a 2 device limit. I u sweat and that they do that to prevent people from sharing, but there are real users out there that have multiple iOS devices and 2 is very low. I could understand 5, but have never seen another app blocking to 2 users.

I hope navionics understands how Apple accounts work and how personal they are. Their worry is probably valid for less than 1% of their users.

Used to be the best navigation app out there. Now I need 4 subscriptions of £40 to cover the charts that used to be one subscription of £30.

I am a professional seafarer who cruises the entire med. This used to be a single subscription. Now I have to buy western med, Adriatic and North Africa. Also now Greece doesn’t exist for purchase. 

From £30 to £160 for the same coverage in year is not an acceptable increase.

Great app which I have hitherto been using as my prime method of navigation BUT my subscription will run out when I’m at sea and may not have Wi-Fi connection to renew- so no AIS overlay etc. Contrary messages- an email says I have to manually renew; help suggestion elsewhere says automatic renewal of  subscription is possible… very very disappointed.

### *---- "It’s so disappointing, almost like my favorite toy is broken!"
This app used to be fantastic, literally the best app I’d ever used for anything and a day wouldn’t pass without me opening it.

Now… after several disappointments (it crashed on a new iPhone consistently, it kept making really strange routing decisions, it was just unreliable) over the past couple of years I just gave up using it, and started using SavvyNavy instead.

This year I opened it on my iPhone and it worked, so I purchased the maps to my area (grudgingly, admittedly) - this morning, I opened it on my iPad, logged in and I’m just getting a spinning wheel, not even an error message.

I’ve got a new(ish) iPad Air, about 18 months old, the iPad is up to date, the latest version of Navionics… it’s just basically unreliable.

Wasted subscription, back to Savvy Navvy ….

Honestly folks, don’t waste your money, find something else.

After years of being able to access my out of date charts without renewing my subscription, the newer version of the app no longer allows this- you can only access charts if you have an active subscription. 

Navionics support article says that I should never have expected this, however when I originally purchased the chart it was marketed on the basis that I’d be able to still access charts, they just would not be updated. 

In my scenario where I use it for navigation of familiar waters this was great since it could provide bearings and distances to marks, however if I was to go somewhere unfamiliar I would be more than willing to pay for new and up to date chart to ensure safe passage planning. Much like if I were purchasing paper charts, if I had an old one for local familiar waters but I would purchase up to date ones if I was off exploring. 

The way that this has been done and the general tone of the support article is very poor, which is really disappointing as my experience of Garmin prior to this was very good.

Account log-in feature is a become a faulty liability.  With an active subscription, and a strong 5G connection that allows me to browse the the web, including Garmin’s own website, when I try to log-in to my account, I immediately get a ‘connection failed, try again later’ message.  Updating the app, restarting the app multiple times, and rebooting iPad have all had no effect.   Because of the changes Garmin appears to have made to the log-in process, which never used to be a problem in the past, this app can no longer be regarded as a reliable navigation tool and is therefore useless.  Don’t waste your money on it.
PS - message to Garmin tech support: if I don’t have a reliable internet connection, how come I was able to write this review of your app?
